British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes – Form Comments

G1 - 2400m – Turf

1

Albasharah

Although she has never won over this distance, the numbers suggest that one of her career best runs came over 2382m when a close third in a G2 at Haydock in July 2013. Most recently she thrashed some highly regarded rivals in a Listed contest over 2000m at Newmarket. Big and strong, this lightly-raced four-times winner is still improving.

2

Chicquita

The fact that she is a four-year-old who has won just one of her six races doesn't really tell the story. Not only did she finish second to Treve in the G1 French Oaks (2100m) on just her third start but - despite running right across the track in the closing stages - she then stylishly won a G1 at the Curragh in July 2013. Now Irish-trained she has only raced twice since, including when down the field in the Arc last time. Potentially brilliant, she remains an enigma.

3

Cubanita

Two of her four wins have come at a G3 level including with a battling success over 2405m on her first start of this season. Two dismal performances followed for this smart but inconsistent filly, but she did show much closer to her peak form when third in a G3 last time. She may not be good enough, but soft ground will help.

4

Pollyana

Sprang a shock win in a G2 over 1600m during Arc weekend in France in 2013. She kicked off this season for her latest stable when a good third to brilliant Cirrus Des Aigles in an 1850m G1 at Longchamp in May. Her two subsequent starts have not been very encouraging however and there are also stamina doubts at 2400m.

5

Seal Of Approval

Unfancied in the betting but always travelling well she clearly loved the soft ground and stormed to a fabulous 4-length victory in this event last year. She hasn't matched that in four starts in 2014 and has been a beaten favourite twice. However, she is a big and scopey filly and, not surprisingly, this valuable prize has been her main target for some time.

6

Silk Sari

From a family that improves with age and that is exactly what is happening with this filly, winning her last two starts and storming to a 5-length victory over 12 rivals in a 2900m G2 for fillies and mares at Doncaster last month - by far her best career performance. Back down in trip which is no problem but connections may worry if the ground is very soft.

7

Tasaday

None of her seven wins (from 16 starts) have come over this far, but she has run well over it on several occasions  - including when third to the brilliant Treve in the G1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp in 2013. She ran a good second in a G3 at Newbury last time and seems on good terms with herself.

8

We'll Go Walking

This filly won her first start but has been beaten on her subsequent outings including comprehensive defeats on her last three runs. She has some talent but surely not enough for her to win a quality G1 event like this.

9

Hadaatha

She has only raced four times but she is very talented, with the figures suggesting that she has improved significantly race by race. Moving into G1 company for the G1 Prix de l'Opera (2000m) at Longchamp this month, she was finishing fastest of all for a close third. Good chances, surely, if the longer distance and probable softer ground suit.

10

Madame Chiang

She won her first two starts - latterly a G3 over 2100m - in the style of a really good filly. She struggled on the ground - and track - in the G1 Epsom Oaks in June and reappeared in the Prix Vermeille - another G1 - last month and showed some promise. Very lightly raced, she remains interesting and the anticipated soft conditions at Ascot could well be in her favour.
