Beer-filled Oktoberfest leads in a season of Happy Wednesdays fun

20/10/2014

The beer-filled Oktoberfest to start this Wednesday (22 October) heralds a new season of exciting Happy Wednesdays - the signature midweek parties that have created a vibrant trackside atmosphere during Happy Valley racenights (Photo 1).   On Wednesday, Consul-General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Nikolaus Graf Lambsdorff, and CEO of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, will be invited to pour and quaff the first stein of Oktoberfest beer. The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s German-born Executive Chef Bruno Burg and his team have prepared a selection of eight German delicacies for fans to enjoy at the Beer Garden takeaway counters, available from HK$30 per item. Roasted Pork Knuckle with Sauerkraut, Mixed Sausages with Sauerkraut and Blue Mussels in Beer Broth Menu are amongst the not-to-be-missed signature items.  This year, fans can savour 11 different brews during the Oktoberfest celebrations (Photo 2).  EMS, a top band from Munich, will also be on hand to entertain Valley fans with festive songs (Photo 3).  To celebrate the return of Happy Wednesday events, a special ceremony will be held at the Beer Garden prior to the start of the racing action.

To add to the fun atmosphere, partygoers will be able to participate in various exciting games with the chance to win fantastic prizes including vouchers worth HK$3,000.  The “Perfect Draught Pouring” challenge, the “Cheer Up Challenge” and “Speed Drinking Contest” are sure to keep the festive fun going all night long.

Happy Valley Racecourse hotspots adrenaline and The Gallery are also geared up to provide endless fun for beer lovers.  The buffet menu in adrenaline and the semi-buffet dinner in The Gallery will both boast an array of mouthwatering traditional German dishes.   Both venues will feature a special "frozen beer" from Japanese brand Kirin, as well as a tasting offer on three designated brews.  Fans can stayed tuned to the latest updates on promotional offers at adrenaline and The Gallery by logging in to the Happy Wednesday Facebook page.

Please refer to Beer Garden notices for detailed game rules and terms and conditions.  All racegoers must be aged 18 or above. For enquiries, please call HKJC’s Customer Service Hotline 1817 or visit www.hkjc.com.
