HKJC purchases colts at Tattersalls

21/10/2014

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has purchased four colts at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for a total of 620,000 guineas (approximately HK$8.2 million).

Lot 86 was picked out of Book 1, the elite portion of Europe’s premier yearling sale, for 180,000 guineas (approx. HK$2.38 million). The bay youngster is by the Australian champion Fastnet Rock and hails from a prolific black type family that has in recent times produced the crack miler and multiple G1 winner Excelebration.

Book 2 yielded three further buys. The most expensive of the bunch at 200,000 guineas (approx. HK$2.65 million) is Lot 767, a speedily-bred Approve colt out of an unraced half-sister to the high-class sprinter Hot Streak, winner of the G2 Temple Stakes and twice placed at G1 level. The youngster is from the same storied family as Height Of Fashion, Unfuwain, Nashwan, Nayef and Ghanaati.

Lot 509, a Showcasing colt out of the Listed-placed sprinter Roodeye, was knocked down for 140,000 guineas (approx. HK$1.85 million), while Lot 523, an Invincible Spirit colt, was secured for 100,000 guineas (approx. HK$1.32 million).

“It was a really strong market, so I’m pleased that we have been able to buy four nice types that represent good value,” said Mark Richards, HKJC’s Executive Manager, International Sale.

“At this stage, all four possess the attributes that suggest they have every chance of doing well in Hong Kong. They’re athletic types and they come from good families; they have that nice blend of speed and quality we’re always looking for.”
