G1 – 2040m – Turf

1

Sacred Falls

Zac Purton takes the ride on this galloper who was closing 2.45 lengths 4th to Fawkner, Criterion and Side Glance in the 2000m Caulfield Stakes on 11 October after winning the 1600m George Main Stakes on 20 September. Not won at 2000m but twice second to top class It's A Dundeel at G1 level at the distance.

2

Fawkner

Impressive on pace winner of the 2000m Caulfield Stakes at just his second run this season and just his fourth since winning the 2013 Caulfield Cup. Drawn for good run stalking the speed.

3

Side Glance

Led at even tempo and held on well when 1.95 lengths 3rd to Fawkner in the Caulfield Stakes. Finished creditable 4 lengths 6th in this race last year without the benefit of a lead-up run in Australia. Regular rider Jamie Spencer flies in to take the mount.

4

Happy Trails

Finished hard when nose 2nd to the 3YO Shamus Award in last year's Cox Plate. Lead-up form then arguably better but he's still racing well. Would have liked faster tempo last time when fair, closing 2.75 lengths 5th to Fawkner in the Caulfield Stakes.

5

Foreteller

Evergreen eight-year-old who rarely wins the big races but he's rarely far away at the finish. Only 1.25 lengths from winner Shamus Award in this race last year. Won the 1800m Underwood Stakes at Caulfield before 4.95 lengths 8th to Fawkner in Caulfield Stakes when did settle long way back.

6

The Cleaner

In-form front runner who's won three on end and developed a cult following. Past two wins have been at this track - the 1600m Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and 2040m JRA Cup. This is toughest test but will lead, likely at good clip, and give them something to catch.

7

Guest Of Honour

Marco Botti trained visitor who debuted in Australia with 3.25 lengths 9th to Trust In A Gust in 1600m G1 Toorak Handicap. Carried top weight in that handicap and ran his last 600m in 34.8s after conceding too great a start. Unplaced only previous 2000m start - in 2013 Arlington Million.

8

Criterion

AJC Derby winner last season and has made steady progress in his four runs this season. Ran second fastest last 600m split when closing head 2nd to Fawkner in the Caulfield Stakes. Each way chance which would be greater if track was rain affected.

9

Silent Achiever

Top class mare who won three straight G1 races last season including the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) over Carlton House and It's A Dundeel. Unplaced three runs this season but may be unwise to write her off. Settled too far back last start when 5.05 lengths 9th to Lucia Valentina in 2000m Turnbull Stakes.

10

Royal Descent

Quality mare who has finished second all four runs this season - the latest two at G1 level. Beaten a nose when runner-up to Moreira's mount He's Your Man in the 1600m Epsom Handicap on 4 October. One win at this distance was as a 3YO against own age and sex.

11

Adelaide

Northern Hemisphere 3YO trained by Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore flies in to take the ride. Boasts two wins and a second from three starts at this distance. Won the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington on 16 August, at 2000m, before 1.5 lengths 3rd to Ectot in the Prix Neil at 2400m.

12

Almalad

Impressive winner of the 1600m Stutt Stakes, against his own age, at this track on 26 September before below best with 6.65 lengths 8th to Shooting To Win in the G1 Caulfield Guinaes, 1600m, on 11 October.

13

Sweynesse

Sound winner of the 1800m Gloaming Stakes on 27 September before 2.6 lengths 3rd to Hampton Court in the 2000m G1 Spring Champion Stakes, won in track record time, on 11 October.

14

Wandjina

Ran quickest last 600m split when closing 1.3 lengths 3rd to Shooting To Win and Rich Enuff in the G1 Caulfield Guineas at 1600m on 11 October.
