Melbourne Cup Day races to be beamed live for betting

30/10/2014

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast for betting six races from the Melbourne Cup Day Meeting at Flemington on Tuesday, 4 November. (1st race 10:15 am)

The A$6,000,000 Melbourne Cup is not only the richest handicap in the world but also one of the most anticipated event of the Australian racing and social calendar. At 3pm of the first Tuesday of every November, Australia comes to a standstill as people tuned in to catch the action of the race that literally stops a nation. It is in a little more than 3 minutes the Cup dreams are made for some but shattered for the others.

The Cup has now become a truly international event with around 10 overseas trained runners due to line-up in the final field of 24.  At the top of the handicap is Japan’s Admire Rakti who made an impressive winning debut in Australia under Zac Purton in the G1 Caulfield Cup.  He is to be re-opposed by classy filly Lucia Valentina and other fancied locals like Brambles and Junoob.

The six races to be simulcast from Australia are:

Schweppes #FlemingtonFling (1000M for 3yo)
Lexus Hybrid Plate (Desirable Stakes) - Listed 1400M for 3yo fillies
Melbourne Cup (G1 3200M 3yo+ handicap)
James Boag’s Premium Stakes (Melbourne Cup Day Plate) - Listed 1800M
MSS Security Sprint (Always Welcome Stakes) - Listed 1200M
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (Maybe Mahal Stakes) – G3 1400M for 4yo+ fillies & mares

Final declarations with barrier draws for the Melbourne Cup will be available on the afternoon of Saturday, 1 November while the final declarations with barrier draws for the other races will be published on Friday, 31 October.
