Happy Wednesday is turning Japanese

17/11/2014

Karate and karaoke; sake and sushi– for the first time, Happy Valley Racecourse is giving itself a fully Japanese makeover (Photo 1  Photo 2).   The opening party of “Japan Night” to be staged this Wednesday (19 November) will coincide with the Japan Racing Association Trophy.  At two midweek night meetings, Happy Wednesday fans will be treated to a traditional Japanese festival, complete with games, on-course decorations, traditional performances and a variety of delicious Japanese food and cocktails.  Don’t miss what promises to be two fun-filled weeks, with a thoroughly festive atmosphere and stellar on-track action!

Land of the Rising Fun
Colourful performances and a healthy sampling of Japanese cultural fun are in store at the party. Fans can pose for souvenir snaps at on-course photo booths, wearing yukatas which are available on site.  True to the spirit of Japanese festive celebrations, a mochitsuki trial - the pounding of Japanese rice cakes – promises to bring fans additional fun.  Other highlights of the party include a Japanese Drum Dance by the all-girls O • Daiko and upbeat traditional Japanese dance performances by the reputable Chika Wakayagi Japanese Traditional Dance Institute – Konokai.

Nibble a Taste of Nippon
Head Chef of the Hongkong Japanese Club Fukata Kei, highly acclaimed for his culinary skills, will lend recipes* from his exclusive, members-only restaurant to the trackside menu at Happy Valley Racecourse, giving racegoers a top-notch taste of the very best that Japanese cuisine has to offer.
