30/11/2014

Hong Kong representative Zac Purton is ranked joint 9th as the two-day contest of World Super Jockeys Series concluded at Tokyo Racecourse today.

Having racked up 15 points after the first day of competition, Purton rode the three-year-old colt Salire Mondo for 15th in the 2014 Marvelous Jockeys Trophy (1600m, dirt).  His ride in the last leg, the six-year-old horse Smart Liberty, finished 8th in the Prominent Jockeys Trophy (turf, 2000m).  At a total of 20 points he was ranked joint 9th, while Japanese jockey Suguru Hamanaka won this year’s contest with 42 points.

Yuichi Fukunaga, who together with Purton will participate in the LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship at Happy Valley on 10 December, is the best performed jockey among the six Hong Kong-bound riders as he had 40 points and finished second in the World Super Jockeys Series.

Although French champion and IJC-bound jockey Christophe Soumillon just finished 12th in the WSJS, he won an even bigger prize when he partnered Japanese runner Epiphaneia to win the Japan Cup, notching his first victory in this 2400m G1 contest.
