"REDKIRK WARRIOR" INQUIRY

12/01/2015

The Stewards today continued their inquiry into G Mosse’s handling of REDKIRK WARRIOR in the Wang Chau Handicap which was run at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 4 January 2015.  Further evidence was today taken from Jockey Mosse and Mr W Y So, the trainer of REDKIRK WARRIOR.  A written authority for Mr So to represent the interests of Ms Jenny Tam Yuk Ching, the owner of REDKIRK WARRIOR, at today’s inquiry was tendered.

G Mosse was charged with having breached Hong Kong Rule of Racing 99 (2) and (5) in that as the rider of REDKIRK WARRIOR in the stated race, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure REDKIRK WARRIOR was given a full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible placing in the field.

The charge against Jockey Mosse was particularised as follows:-

1.    From approaching the 500 Metres until after entering the Home Straight near the 400 Metres, he failed to place REDKIRK WARRIOR under sufficient pressure and urge his mount into a more prominent and advantageous position relative to WINNING TALENT and GALLANT TRIUMPH when it was both reasonable and permissible for him to have done so given REDKIRK WARRIOR’s position in the race at the relevant time.

2.    From after entering the Home Straight near the 400 Metres until passing the 200 Metres, he failed to ride REDKIRK WARRIOR with sufficient purpose and vigour to either improve inside GALLANT TRIUMPH sooner than he did with a view to obtaining clear running outside HAPPY PLACE at an earlier time of the race when it was both reasonable and permissible for him to have done so; or, in the alternative, improving into clear and unimpeded running which it was available at all relevant times in advance of REDKIRK WARRIOR between WINNING TALENT and GALLANT TRIUMPH and behind CHATER LEGEND and LAUGH OUT LOUD when it was both reasonable and permissible for him to have done so.

3.    By his failure to ride REDKIRK WARRIOR with sufficient purpose and vigour from approaching the 500 Metres until passing the 200 Metres, that horse was not given a full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible placing in the field.

G Mosse pleaded not guilty to the charge and requested an adjournment of the inquiry so as to allow further evidence to be placed before the inquiry.  The Stewards acceded to Jockey Mosse’s request and adjourned the inquiry until 9:00 am on Wednesday, 14 January 2015 at which time it will be resumed at the Happy Valley Inquiry Room.
