Jockey Club purchases six at Karaka Yearling Sale

02/02/2015

The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased six colts at last week’s New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale for a total outlay of NZ$1,765,000 (approximately HK$10.7 million).

The auction’s first two days were designated as the Premier Yearling Sale (Monday, 26 January and Tuesday 27 January) and the Club bought four youngsters from those elite sessions. The highest-priced of the bunch at NZ$425,000 was Lot 436, a Savabeel colt out of an unraced own sister to the Australian G1 winner Velocitea.

Lot 249, knocked down for NZ$400,000, is by Fastnet Rock out of the Australian black type earner Allez France, making the colt a half-brother to four winners including Superfly, a Listed winner at two.

The opening day’s purchases consisted of Lot 92, a Savabeel colt out of a three-parts sister to Blue Diamond Preview winner World Peace, from the same family as the this season’s G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Vase third Khaya; and Lot 39, a Darci Brahma youngster from the family of Australian G1 heroine Lights Of Heaven.

The Select Yearling Sale (28 January to 30 January) saw the Club step in and buy two more promising colts; Lot 455, an O’Reilly relative of four-time Hong Kong winner Brilliant Shine, and Lot753, a Bel Esprit colt from a high-class family.
