Celebrate Year of the Goat at CNY Raceday with chance to win a 24K gold plated ornament and jackpot dividends of HK$71 million over CNY period

03/02/2015

This Chinese New Year Raceday (photo 1, 2) has always been Hong Kong's most popular horse racing event of all.  With the coming Year of the Goat just around the corner, The Hong Kong Jockey Club's Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, Executive Director of Racing William A Nader and Executive Director of Customer and Marketing Richard Cheung hosted a press conference today (3 February) to announce details of the 2015 event, which will take place at Sha Tin Racecourse on Saturday 21 February, the third day of the Chinese New Year.

They were joined by renowned cross-media artist Simon Ma, popular singers Andy Hui, Ram Chiang and Rita Carpio, and feng shui master Mak Ling Ling, all of whom will play a part in making this year's event extra-special.

Once again this year, Ma has joined forces with the Club to develop the CNY Raceday visuals and themed merchandise.  During today's press conference, he demonstrated the variety of innovative techniques and materials he has applied in his Year of the Goat designs, blending artistic elements with the exciting action of horse racing.

A comprehensive programme of colourful and traditional on-course festivities has been scheduled for the CNY Raceday, including a grand opening show featuring singing stars Andy Hui, Ram Chiang and Rita Carpio.  A CNY-themed merchandise Bazaar will offer a selection of limited edition items to mark the festival, while a Fortune Formation designed by feng shui master Mak Ling Ling will be set up on the Forecourt.  All racegoers will receive a mobile phone stand (photo 3, 4) and an Instant Win card# upon admission to the racecourse (while stocks last), offering them a chance to win a 24K gold plated ornament (photo 5).  Over HK$680,000 worth of ornaments will be up for grabs.

Over $71 million jackpots to celebrate Chinese New Year
Total payouts of over $71 million will be on offer to celebrate the Year of the Goat.  An estimated $30 million will await the holder of a single $10 winning unit for the Triple Trio at the CNY race meeting on the third day of the Chinese New Year (Saturday 21 February), as the prize pool will be topped up from the Triple Trio Jackpot Reserve.  A further $40 million is expected to be up for grabs by a single first prize winner in the Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball Draw on the fourth day, Sunday 22 February.

A total jackpot of $1.8 million will also be allocated to the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool for the race meeting held on the seventh day of the Chinese New Year (Wednesday 25 February).  The jackpot will be split between the second leg of the Triple Trio and the last race, with each carrying $900,000.  More details of the jackpot arrangement for the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool for the rest of this season will be released in March.

HKJC’s collaboration with WeChat
The Jockey Club also announced today a co-operation with Tencent to develop various initiatives to provide HKJC’s services on WeChat platform.  For example, WeChat services are planned in different stages during 2015-2016, offering services such as purchase of racecourse admission tickets to the Public Enclosure.  Subsequent phases will be announced accordingly.  The Club always places high importance on technology and digital experience development, and continue to apply new technology to enhance the services and offerings to customers.
