Ring in the Year of the Ram with Happy Wednesday

09/02/2015

On 11 and 25 February, Happy Wednesday is pulling out all the stops to celebrate Chinese New Year in style, partnering hip tastemakers G.O.D. to turn back the clock and reflect on the Hong Kong of yore.  Fans are invited to ring in the Year of the Ram with a healthy helping of traditional local culture, including fortune-telling, lion dances, Chinese arts and crafts, a host of rambunctious games and activities, and classic Chinese instrumental performances at adrenaline.  All this, of course, will be paired with mouth-watering food, thirst-quenching beverages and thrilling on-track excitement, making Happy Wednesday the perfect event to honour the city’s biggest holiday season (Photos 1, 2, 3).

Hip Hop Lion Dance

A traditional lion dance performance, as well as a modern-day, East-meets-West hip hop version will drum up a wonderful festive atmosphere in the Beer Garden. The nights will also feature a line-up of terrific choreographed Chinese dance performances, all set to modern tunes.

The Ram Jam Zone

A wealth of exciting cultural activities will also be on hand at Happy Wednesday to enrich the holiday spirit.  Don't feel sheepish about getting involved!

Looking for the Lion King - Pack a camera, as traditional lion-dancing costumes will be on hand for fans to wear and strike a pose in.

Fortune-telling by birds - The use of trained birds to read one’s fortune is a skill that dates back hundreds of years. There's no better way to get the new year off to a flying start than by consulting some winged wisdom.

Chinese Folk Art – An authentic Chinese folk artist will run demonstrations of traditional arts- and craft-making that racegoers will also have the opportunity to purchase.

The Ram Cam

A must-go spot for racing fans will be the Lion King booth, where the winner of a selfie contest will take home a G.O.D. gift voucher worth HK$1,000.  The first and second runners-up will each receive HK$500 G.O.D. gift vouchers.  All participants who upload their photos with the designated hashtags will receive a souvenir.
