17/02/2015

Chinese New Year Raceday has always been hugely popular with Hong Kong people as an auspicious way to start the new year.  The coming Year of the Goat should be no exception as The Hong Kong Jockey Club has again arranged an exciting array of CNY festivities for racegoers to enjoy at Sha Tin Racecourse on Saturday 21 February, the third day of the Lunar New Year.

The excitement will start immediately on arrival, as each person entering Sha Tin Racecourse that day will receive a mobile phone stand (photo 1, 2) along with an Instant Win card** before the start of Race 6, while stocks last.  The Instant Win card offers the chance to win a 24K gold plated ornament (photo 3) worth HK$788, sponsored by Love Knots.  In total there are 880 ornaments to be won, together worth over HK$680,000.

A star-studded variety show and opening ceremony (photo 4) will be held at 11:00 am in the Parade Ring.  Popular singers Andy Hui, Ram Chiang and Rita Carpio will perform their all-time favourites and popular CNY tunes.  Feng shui master Mak Ling Ling will share her fortune tips for the Year of the Goat, while jockeys will join the fun by greeting fans with lucky messages.

Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR The Hon John Tsang will officiate at the opening ceremony and later present the Chinese New Year Cup (Race 8) to the winning connections.  An alluring $30 million Triple Trio dividend (photo 5) for a single $10 winning unit will give the day added lustre.

A strong line-up of on-course programmes has been arranged for the Chinese New Year Raceday.  Highlights include:

  • Racegoers can try to enrich their festive fortune by visiting master Mak Ling Ling’s (photo 6) astounding feng shui fortune formation on the Public Forecourt and touching auspicious symbols.
