Celebrate Chinese New Year the Happy Wednesday way

23/02/2015

This Wednesday (25 February), Happy Wednesday fans will again bask in the festive ambience when joining the party themed around the Chinese New Year. The event partnering with hip tastemakers G.O.D., is set to turn back the clock and reflect on the Hong Kong of yore.   A healthy helping of traditional local culture, including fortune-telling, lion dances, Chinese arts and crafts, a host of rambunctious games and activities, and classic Chinese instrumental performances at adrenaline will make a fitting celebration of the city’s biggest holiday season (Photos 1, 2, 3).

A traditional lion dance performance will drum up a wonderful festive atmosphere in the Beer Garden. The nights will also feature a line-up of terrific choreographed East-meets-West dance performances, all set to modern tunes.

At The Ram Jam Zone, a wealth of exciting cultural activities including fortune-telling and Chinese Folk Art will also be on hand at Happy Wednesday to enrich the holiday spirit.  A selfie contest will offer G.O.D. gift vouchers as prizes, worth a total of HK$2,000.   Participants of the selfie game would each be treated to a festive snack of the traditional Chinese birthday bun.   For game details please refer to the Happy Wednesday Facebook page.   The trackside catering kiosks will offer a mouth-watering array of scrumptious New Year’s dishes for fans to savour, available from HK$35 for an item (Photo 4).

The prodigious John Szeto Kin, a Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra musician, will send greetings to fans by delivering a traditional hugin performance at adrenaline.  He received a Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship to support his training at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.  Szeto will also collaborate with Jennifer Palor on a number of popular songs (Photo 5). At adrenaline and The Gallery, a sumptuous spread of festive foods will be on offer.  The list of fun goes on as fans can enjoy Year of The Ram riddle challenge and take snapshots in front of a giant peach blossom tree.  The God of Fortune will also be there to give away New Year candies and wish everyone a prosperous and sweet year ahead.  For bookings, please call 3690-3690.

Please refer to on-site notices for detailed game rules and terms and conditions.  All racegoers must be aged 18 or above. For enquiries, please call HKJC’s Customer Service Hotline 1817 or visit www.hkjc.com.
