The BMW Hong Kong Derby, a much-coveted honour for four-year-old horses and connections, will be run this Sunday, 15 March, at Sha Tin Racecourse. Besides seeing top-class horses in action, racing fans can enjoy a wealth of attractions as well as appearances by Derby Ambassador Donnie Yen. Fans arriving at the racecourse before Race 5 will also receive a BMW Hong Kong Derby Cap (photo 1), while stocks last.
The BMW Hong Kong Derby, a once-in-lifetime contest for top four-year-olds, will be run as Race 9.
Dr Simon S O Ip, Chairman of HKJC will present the trophy to the winning connections after the race. Donnie Yen, Mr Newman Tsang, Managing Director – Hong Kong & Macau, BMW Concessionaires (HK) Ltd & Sime Darby Motor Group (HK) Limited; and Mr. Kevin Coon, Vice President of BMW Group Importer Office Hong Kong, Macau & Taiwan will present souvenirs.
A range of on-course activities are available for racing fans to enjoy, including
- BMW will be exhibiting the latest BMW models at the Parade Ring and Public Forecourt;
- A variety of award-winning culinary delights will be served up at Trackside Catering Counters;
- A range of limited edition Derby-themed merchandise will be available at the Concourse and Member's Enclosure sales counters;
- An all-new souvenir flagship store “Gift at Races”located at Grandstand II will open on Derby Day. Customers making purchases exceeding specific amounts on Derby Day will be eligible for special souvenirs, while stocks last;
- Selected BMW collectibles will be on offer at booths located in the Public and Members’ Stands.
Sha Tin Racecourse will open for admission at 11am, with the first race starting at 1pm. There will be 10 races on the card. Another feature race of the day, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup, the final leg of the Hong Kong Speed Series, will be run as Race 7.
