Doncaster Mile – Form Comments

G1 - 1600m – Turf

1

Sacred Falls

Chases victory in this Group 1 Handicap race for the third straight year but carrying more weight, of course, on this occasion. Zac Purton won on him last year and returns for the ride. Below best last start when 5.7 lengths 12th to Real Impact in the G1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on 21 March but can improve especially if track is rain affected.

2

Happy Trails

Consistent galloper whose latest win was in the G1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington last November. Ran on strongly last start when 1.35 lengths 3rd to Spillway in G1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on 14 March. Prep run at 2000m often winning recipe for this 1600m race. Handles some give in ground.

3

World Ace

Japanese contender who ran 5 lengths 4th to Able Friend in G1 Hong Kong Mile last December. At first run since was 5.1 lengths 11th to Real Impact in the G1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on 21 March. Trainer says much fitter for last run. Has performed OK only two starts on soft ground.

4

Real Impact

Second Japanese contender who scored tough on-pace win by nose from Criterion (HK Cup 3rd last year) in the G1 George Ryder Stakes at 1500m at first run in Australia. Draws wide and looks to prefer firm ground.

5

Moriarty

Even effort at first run since December when 4.2 lengths 8th to Real Impact in the George Ryder Stakes. G1 winner at 1800m last year and likely to be fitter. Prefers good ground.

6

Royal Descent

Moreira takes the ride on this fine mare who has finished second all five runs this course and distance including in this race last year. Ready to peak at third run this campaign after 2.2 lengths 4th to Real Impact in the Ryder Stakes. Capable all conditions.

7

Ninth Legion

Had two runs this course and distance - close 5th in this race last year and 1.7 lengths 4th to He's Your Man and Royal Descent in Epsom Handicap last October. Fit and in form after last start nose 2nd to Burbero in G2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on 14 March. All wins on good rated tracks.

8

Puccini

G1 winner at this distance in New Zealand. Sound effort last time when came from second last on home turn to finish 0.7 lengths 4th to Observational in Listed Golden Mile at Bendigo on 21 March. Seven of eight wins on good ground.

9

Cosmic Endeavour

Not won beyond 1400m. Unknown at this distance. Led throughout win G1 1300m sprint on 7 March before fading 6.4 lengths last of 14 behind Real Impact in the Ryder Stakes (1500m). Does handle soft ground but distance a query. Would need easy lead.

10

Hallowed Crown

Smart 3YO who's won six of eight starts and suited back in distance after 1.4 lengths 3rd to Volkstok'n'barrell in G1 Rosehill Guineas at 2000m. That followed G1 Randwick Guineas win at this course and distance. Handles all ground.

11

Hooked

Ran 3rd in G1 Epsom Handicap this course and distance last year and won G2 Crystal Mile. Fitter for two runs in 2015 - latest was 2.7 lengths 7th to Real Impact in the Ryder Stakes. Form generally better on good tracks but has won on soft ground.

12

It's Somewhat

Godolphin UK import. Won at 1300m on soft ground at first Australian run before 4.3 lengths 9th to Real Impact in the Ryder Stakes. Capable of improving here.

13

Diamond Drille

Ran on well when 0.2 lengths 3rd to Plucky Belle in the G1 Coolmore Classic at 1500m at Rosehill on 14 March. Suited getting down in the weights here and if the track is rain affected.

14

Pornichet

Strong on-pace winner of the G3 Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday. Drop in distance not a disadvantage and has performed well on good and soft ground.

15

Destiny's Kiss

Held ground last Saturday when 5.4 lengths 6th to Pornichet in the 2000m Sellwood Stakes. Has to improve but best form on rain affected tracks and could surprise if ground is soft.

16

Arabian Gold

Ran on late, at second run in 2015, when 0.7 lengths 6th to Plucky Belle in the G1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on 14 March. Fitter, has good record at Randwick and handles all conditions (has won five of six on soft ground).

17

Leebaz

Led and battled on well when 1 length 3rd to Excess Knowledge in G3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) at Rosehill last Saturday. This tougher but down in weight and OK all conditions.

18

Rudy

Just fair last Saturday when 2.6 lengths 8th to Excess Knowledge in G3 Doncaster Prelude at 1500m but does perform best on soft ground and could improve if those conditions apply.

19

Suavito

Top class mare who looks well weighted after four straight wins at Group level. Last start, led to win G2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on 14 March, beating Sertorious. Best form on good ground but had little exposure to wet.

20

Plucky Belle

Underrated mare who ran on strongly to win the G1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on 14 March. Yet to win beyond 1500m but consistent and handles all ground.

Reserves

21

Sweynesse

Runner-up to Hallowed Crown in runs at 1400m and 1600m before 5.4 lengths 4th to Volkstok'n'barrell in G1 Rosehill Guineas at 2000m on 21 March. Suited back in distance and can perform good or soft ground.

22

Kermadec

Slow to begin and ran on late when 2.1 lengths 3rd to Real Impact in the G1 Ryder Stakes (1500m) on 21 March. Promising 3YO capable of running well. All starts have been on good ground.

23

Aomen

Handy record at this distance but has to improve on 1.6 lengths 7th to Burbero in G2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on 14 March. Six of seven wins on good ground.

24

Malavio

Yet to place in five tries at this distance and has to improve after 2.2 lengths 6th to Excess Knowledge in G3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) last Saturday.
