Super Lifeline eyes the Macau Hong Kong Trophy

14/04/2015

Super Lifeline won the 2014 edition of the HKG3 Hong Kong Macau Trophy (1400m), and, after running fourth in this year’s renewal at Sha Tin last month, Tony Millard’s charge will make the journey to Taipa in an attempt to annex the reciprocal contest, the MAC G1 Macau Hong Kong Trophy (1500m) on Saturday, 18 April.

Super Lifeline (128lb) is one of five Hong Kong challengers heading to Macau for the second race in this year’s two-leg inter-port series. The five-year-old, drawn in gate 1, will face-off against the Dennis Yip-trained Guru’s Dream (123lb), third in the Hong Kong Macau Trophy and drawn four this time, and the Tony Cruz-trained Mulitivictory (120lb - gate 8), with whom he dead-heated for fourth in that contest. Super Lifeline carried 128lb that day and conceded 6lb and 15lb to each rival, respectively.

Also in the line-up are the Yip-trained Winning Leader (121lb) in the 10 berth - seventh in the first leg - and the Ricky Yiu-trained Great Spirit (115lb), who has drawn six.

“Super Lifeline is well,” said Millard. “He’s up in the handicap but I’m happy with him; his last run was excellent. This race is 1500m and that should suit him. He likes the 1400m and just struggles to get 1600m. He’s a nice, handy type of horse and now I just hope he takes the travel well.”

The Hong Kong quintet left for Macau today, Tuesday, 14 April.

The field of 10 also features Macau’s Wonder Mossman, who will shoulder top-weight of 133lb. Luck Of Smiling (124lb), Lucky And Wealthy (120lb), Master Of Puppets (117lb) and King Creole (105lb) complete the entries.

Hong Kong filled the first five places in the corresponding race last year as My Name Is Bond took the spoils for Caspar Fownes. Hong Kong is seeking a hat-trick of wins in the annual away leg as the Michael Chang-trained Noble Alpha prevailed in 2013.
