The Audemars Piguet QEII Cup, to be run this Sunday (26 April), will see top Hong Kong horses take on some of the world’s best thoroughbreds in a bid for glory in this coveted International Group 1 race. And joining the big day will be famous local actor Leon Lai@(photo 1), the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup Ambassador, who will present a souvenir to the winning jockey after the race.

A farewell ceremony for the retirement of Ambitious Dragon, 2010/11 and 2011/12 Horse of the Year, will be held on the day 12:15pm at Parade Ring. Racegoers can collect an “Ambitious Dragon commemorative poster” in all customer service counters at Sha Tin Racecourse (one poster for each customer, while stocks last).

The Audemars Piguet QEII Cup will be run as Race 8 over 2000m, and offers total prize money of HK$20 million.  The race was first staged in 1975 to commemorate a visit to Hong Kong by Queen Elizabeth II and it continues to be run annually each spring.

The Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal of the Hong Kong SAR, The Hon Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma Tao Li, will present the trophy to winning connections after the race.  Chief Marketing Officer of Audemars Piguet, Tim Sayler and CEO, Greater China of Audemars Piguet, David von Gunten, will present souvenirs to the winning owner and trainer respectively.

Two new AP QEII Cup merchandise items will be available this year, namely a Sleeveless Jacket (photo 2) ($280) and a 100% cotton Short-Sleeved Polo Shirt (photo 3) ($198).  All merchandise will be on sale at Sha Tin Racecourse.
