Audemars Piguet QEII Cup post-race jockey quotes

26/04/2015

1st - Blazing Speed – Neil Callan
"From the gates he jumped great and I couldn't believe it, I landed in my position so early and the rest was just getting him relaxed and in a rhythm and waiting for the straight. I counted to ten and waited for the straight and then once I let him down I thought he'll take a bit of getting now.”

2nd - Staphanos – Yuichi Fukunaga
"He was travelling nicely until the final turn but the winner was just outside of him and I had no space to shift out. He showed a very powerful late kick when he got clear."

3rd - Criterion – Craig Williams
"He's done a good job to fight on as he did in this class field. He didn't get things his own way. He was a bit fresh and keen early and the challengers came early at the top of the straight. It was his second run in two weeks and he had the travel so all in all he was very good."

4th - Designs On Rome – Joao Moreira
“He was solid today, finishing off well. I was very happy with his performance, just missing the place with the pace not strong enough for him."

5th - Packing Llaregyb – Olivier Peslier
"He finished the race off very well.  The plan was to have him quiet and relaxed and let him finish his race off. He did run on very well with a good turn of foot. For a stride or two nearing the finish, I thought he might even run second. It was a very good performance in this class."

6th – Helene Super Star – Douglas Whyte
"He had the gun run but it was a terrific performance to be right there. Next season he might pick up one of those big ones if there's a chink in the armour of some of those who've been around a while."

7th - Military Attack – Brett Prebble
"He's had a lot of issues and that ground was quite firm out there today. It's taken it's toll on him."

8th - Helene Happy Star – Tommy Berry
"When the pace slackened mid-race it didn't suit him. He was very good under the circumstances. He'll be a serious horse next season."

9th - California Memory – Karis Teetan
"We were happy to sit at the back. When I pulled him out to make his run, he let down really well. He was moving so well which is a good thing and he finished off well against these good up and comers."

10th - Smoking Sun – Stephane Pasquier
"He didn't really fire today."

11th - Red Cadeaux – Hugh Bowman
"The firm track was less than ideal and the lack of pace didn't help."

12th - Same World – Derek Leung
"He couldn't go on after working across to lead. Not good enough against these horses."
