Open Stakes - Form Comments

1600m – Turf

1

Born To Fly

The SIN G2 EW Barker Trophy winner resumed victorious last start from a five-month spell, coming from slightly worse than midfield to beat Gold Rutile over 1400m. He is meeting a stronger lot, including several of the same last-start opposition, but can still hold his own with improvement.

2

Goodman

He came in for strong support to in his back-to-back bid last start in the SIN G3 Admiralty Classic Stakes over this course and distance but ran below expectation. He was well up before beating only one home of eight runners. One bad race does not make a bad horse. This SIN G2 Chairman's Trophy winner can make amends.

3

El Milagro

The 10-time winner, including a G3, seldom runs a bad race but he has not won over this course and distance. He usually leads but last start he went with the pace, dropped back slightly and then came on again to finish third to Born To Fly over 1400m. Just the query over the extra 200m.

4

One Rar

His first six wins were on the Polytrack. But, when he resumed from a four-month break in January, he surprised with a last-to-first success over 1400m on turf. He went quiet in his subsequent three runs and then showed up last start with a nice second to In Fact over the Polytrack 1700m. Take him on trust.

5

Emperor's Banquet

After a couple of placings in the black-type races, including the SIN G1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup over 2200m, he scored a well-deserved win in the SIN G3 Fortune Bowl over 2000m in February. His subsequent two runs were ordinary, the latest being a fifth in the SIN G2 QE Il Cup, but don't rule him out just yet.

6

Martin

He has not won in a year. The 2013 SIN G3 Fortune Bowl winner showed a return to form with a third over this course and distance in February. He went on to finish two smack-up efforts -- a fourth and a fifth -- and then disappointed in SIN G2 QE II Cup. Prefer others.

7

In Fact

A consistent sort, he finished out of board only once in 13 Singapore outings. He scored his second win just two starts back in a Polytrack 1700m event. Last start, he took part in the SIN G3 Admiralty Classic Stakes over this course and distance and finished fourth to Hughsy. He's worth an each-way chance.

8

My Option

She came to Singapore for the SIN G1 CECF Singapore Cup in February and stayed back after finishing fifth. Trained locally by Michael Freedman, he finished seventh to Born To Fly last start. From 17 starts in the US and Canada, he won five times from 1207m to 1810m, two of them in Grade 3. Prefer later.

9

Bourbon Goldman

All his four wins were over 1200m (two each on Polytrack and turf) but he has been racing over middle distances recently for three seconds and a third in his last four starts. Last time out, he flew home second to Hughsy in the SIN G3 Admiralty Classic Stakes over 1600m. His rider lodged an unsuccessful protest for interference in the straight. He richly deserves a winning break.

10

Gold Rutile

This seven-year-old Japanese mare is a five-time Singapore winner from 1200m to 1700m on both surfaces and she is most at home over this course and distance. Last start, she produced her characteristic burst to beat all but Born To Fly over 1400m. With the extra 200m and the handy handicap, she can be one of the horses to follow.

11

City Lad

His recent form is anything but inspiring. He has not won since capturing the SIN G3 Yew Tee Stakes over 1800m in July last year. His best effort in 10 starts since then was a third in the SIN G3 Committee's Prize over this course and distance in September. He ran last in his latest run. Safer to ignore.

12

Alexandra Palace

Both his Singapore wins from nine starts were over this course and distance, the second was four starts back in January. In his penultimate start, he finished fourth to stablemate Slew Of Lode (a runner in the G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup) in the SIN G3 Marsiling Classic Stakes over the Polytrack 1800m. On his last-start disappointing last placing, it's better to look elsewhere.

13

Cheetah On Fire

A versatile sort with six wins from 1200m to 2200m. He rose from obscurity to finish third to Quechua (Singapore Airlines International Cup runner) in Singapore's time-honoured G1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup over 2200m last November before being spelled. He resumed last month with a fourth to Zac Spirit (KrisFlyer International Sprint runner) and then ran seventh second-up behind War Affair in the SIN G1 Lion City Cup over 1200m. The dark horse with the step-up in trip.
