Kranji Stakes C - Form Comments

1800m - Turf

1

Ideal Guide

He won his first three races over 1400m and went straight for the SIN G1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup over 2200m last November and could only finish 10th. He was brought back to the sprints and ran fair races. Last start, he bounced back with a well-timed run to win over 1600m and his connections are stepping him up again to 1800m. With more miles in his legs, he's a possibility.

2

Magical Talent

After scoring three starts back from a three-and-a-half-month spell over 1200m in March, he ran a not-too-bad seventh over 1400m before finishing ninth to stablemate Ideal Guide over 1600m. Although his successes were over 1200m and 1400m, he has finished second over 2200m, signifying that the 1800m should not pose a problem.

3

Valbuena

A smart two-time winner in New Zealand, he was brought to Singapore with the big races in mind but he has proven to be very disappointing. He has yet to finish in the money from 10 starts at Kranji. Last time out, he finished seventh to stablemate Ideal Guide over 1600m.

4

OM

He seldom runs a bad race and will be attempting 1800m for the first time. A strong finisher, the trip should not pose a problem. He scored his fourth win four starts back over the mile. Last time out, he came from last of 12 runners to finish sixth behind Ideal Guide over 1600m.

5

World War

After his last win three starts back in March, he struggled in his next two races. Last time out, he passed a few to finish sixth to a smart horse, A La Victory, over 1400m. His four victories were from 1200m to 1600m, but he has placed second over 1800m. Only his recent form is a concern.

6

Kate's Keeper

He has yet to run a bad race, winning four times from 1200m to 1800m. He has shown improving form in his three runs back from his eight-month spell. He ran eighth first-up, fourth second-up and then second to A La Victory last time out. He looks ready to score again.

7

Powernova

Prior to his last-start eighth to A La Victory over 1400m, he never finished further than fourth in his past 11 outings. He scored thrice, including his penultimate start over 1600m. You can excuse his last run when he came from last to finish eighth by three and three-quarter lengths to A La Victory but this will be his first test over 1800m.

8

Fatkid

The five-time winner has not won since his SIN G2 QE II Cup (2000m) victory in 2011. He has popped up for some minor placings occasionally. He was sparingly raced in the last two years, having competed only eight times, all finishing unplaced. He beat only one home in his last start.

9

Musketeer

This five-time winner has awful form this season. The Japanese-bred gelding finished down the track in all his six starts. His last-start eighth to Ideal Guide over 1600m was his closest, beaten by four and three-quarter lengths.

10

Danger Zone

Dubbed as one of the unluckiest horses in Singapore, he snapped a long sequence of seconds to score his second win in February. That was over this course and distance. But he was unplaced in his subsequent three runs.

11

Mighty Warrior

He's the rising star at Kranji. From four starts, he won thrice and finished second once. His wins were gradually up in distance -- from 1200m to 1400m to 1600m. He's now attempting 1800m and, on the way he has gone from strength to strength, he could make it.

12

Sebrose

A consistent performer, he finished out of board only once from nine starts and that was in his debut when he ran fifth. His campaign has been interrupted a couple of times. He resumed from a second layoff in February with back-to-back wins (over 1200m and 1400m) before finishing fourth last time out over 1600m. This will be his first try over 1800m though. It's not a problem on the way he finished off his races.

13

Tequila Shot

A two-time winner in staying events in South Africa, he was spelled after two unplaced runs in Singapore last August and September. He resumed in April and again made no impression first-up and second-up. Then he struck form last start when a surprise second over 2200m. The 1800m may look a tad short but, most importantly, he has come right.

14

Zeus

He has had only two starts in Singapore, a debut second over 1400m and then a sixth over 1600m with strong support. He may benefit from the run and redeem himself. He had 10 starts in Ireland for two wins, over 1400m and 1600m, and had been placed up to 2012m.
