Kranji Stakes A - Form Comments

1200m - Turf

1

Huka Falls

He's a prolific money-spinner with 13 wins, but only two were on turf. Last time out on 3 May, the five-year-old carried 130lb to finish 3rd to Cavallo over 1000m on the Polytrack. Before that, he was 5th behind Horse of the Year War Affair in the SIN G1 Lion City Cup over 1200m. Although down to 128lb, he is again giving weight all round and that could be the telling factor.

2

Cavallo

The five-year-old benefited from a fast pace last start to notch his ninth win. It was over 1000m on the Polytrack, which is his preferred surface although he has won on turf a couple of times. He is up only 2lb and can back up with the speed likely to be on again with a couple of speedsters in the race.

3

Faaltless

A speedster with six wins from 11 Kranji starts, he resumed from a five-and-a-half-month break on 26 April to finish 6th in the SIN G1 Lion City Cup. Prior to his rest, he beat KrisFlyer International Sprint contender Emperor Max over 1200m in 1m 09.42s, and two runs earlier, when he was fresh from a five-month spell, he captured the SIN G3 Garden City Trophy over 1200m in 1m 08.74s, which was just a fraction off the record time. He can make it all the way if left alone in front.

4

Trudeau

Has not won since last June, but he seemed to have picked up the pieces by finishing 3rd in February and 2nd in the SIN G3 Polytrack Mile Championship in March respectively. But in his last start, he was a well-beaten 9th in the SIN G3 JBBA Moonbeam Vase over 1800m. Although he has won over this distance, he now prefers longer distances.

5

Golden Sand Steed

All his eight victories were on the Polytrack. But before his last-start 6th behind Cavallo over the Polytrack 1000m, he ran third to KrisFlyer International Sprint contender Zac Spirit in the SIN G3 Kranji Sprint over 1200m on turf. He is a come-from-behind type who needs a fast pace to get him to roll home late. He will probably get it but he may not come home as fast as on the Polytrack.

6

Red Beard

He started his career brilliantly in 2011, winning six of his first eight races over sprints. The decision to throw him into the deep-end by taking part in the SIN G1 Emirates Singapore Derby over 2000m, in which he ran last, took the sail out of him. He only returned to the winner's circle six starts later. He completed a double but turned sour again and has not won since July 2013. This will be his first race since last November.

7

Happy Money

He's another Polytrack specialist, having won all his seven races on the synthetic surface. His form has taken a back seat since he notched his fourth win in a row on 7 Dec  last year. He failed to finish in the money in four starts since.

8

Hypernova

He has won five times but only once on turf. His last win in February was fresh from a spell of almost five months. It was over 1100m on the Polytrack. He then finished last in SIN G3 Merlion Trophy over Polytrack 1200m behind KrisFlyer International Sprint runner El Padrino, subsequently 4th latest to rising sprinter Golden Brilliant in an Open 89 event over 1200m with 126lb, on 10 April. The big drop in weight can see him earn a minor placing.

9

Flak Jacket

Like stablemate Faaltless, he is a jump-and-run type but he is rated way lower, which is why he's carrying the minimum weight. Has three wins over 1200m on turf, one of them in a fast 1m 9.60s. He has competed only twice this year. He resumed from a break in mid-March to lead but finished second-last over the Polytrack 1200m.  Then improved second-up to finish a head second over 1200m. He is high up in grade but has weight advantage.
