Derby Stakes Day races and Yasuda Kinen to be simulcast for betting

01/06/2015

Derby Stakes Day from United Kingdom (Sat, 6 June – 1st race starts 9:00pm)

Seven races from the Derby meeting to be held at Epsom Racecourse in the UK will be simulcast for betting from late evening on Saturday, 6 June.

The Derby (G1 2409m for 3yo colts and fillies) dates back to 1780 and is probably the most famous flat race in the world. Over the years, the race became so successful that it inspired versions of The Derby in almost every racing nation in the world. The undulations at Epsom and the testing descent from Tattenham Corner have made the Derby a strong test of balance, speed and stamina. Winning the Blue Riband of the Turf remains the lifetime dream of every horseman.

The 2015 Derby is shaping up as one of the most competitive and open renewals in recent years.  Trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the last four Derbys and expects to head to Epsom with several live chances, which could include the brilliant English and Irish 2,000 Guineas winner GLENEAGLES.  However the Ballydoyle runners will face strong opposition from the first three in the Dante Stakes namely GOLDEN HORN, JACK HOBBS (both trained by John Gosden) and the Qatar Racing-owned ELM PARK.

The supporting card is headed by the Coronation Cup (G1 2409m for 4yo and upwards), an intriguing contest for top middle-distance runners from the older generation where French stars DOLNIYA and FLINTSHIRE could make their first appearances since finishing one-two in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan on Dubai World Cup night.

The other simulcast races on the card are:
Woodcote Stakes (Listed 1200m for 2yo)
‘Dash’ (Handicap) (1000m for 3yo and upwards)
Private Banking Stakes (Handicap) (2016m for 3yo)
Out Of The Ordinary Stakes (Handicap) (2409m for 4yo and upwards)
Asset Management Stakes (Handicap) (1200m for 4yo and upwards)

Final declarations with barrier draws for the Derby Stakes Day races will be available late evening on Thursday, 4 June at the Jockey Club’s website.

Yasuda Kinen from Japan (Sun, 7 June – 2:40pm)

On Sunday, 7 June, the G1 Yasuda Kinen will be simulcast live from Tokyo Racecourse during the Sha Tin races.

The Yasuda Kinen (G1 1600m for 3yo and upwards) now in its 65th running, is a race to determine the best miler of the spring season in Japan.  Featured horses in 2015 include REAL IMPACT, a winner of this race in 2011 and representing strong Australian form with his recent 2nd in the G1 Doncaster Mile; MAURICE, the rising star from the same stable of Noriyuki Hori, and FIERO who ran respectably behind ABLE FRIEND in the G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Mile.

Final declarations with barrier draws for the Yasuda Kinen will be released on Friday, 5 June.
