Coronation Cup V Form Comments

05/06/2015

G1 - 2409m - Turf

1

Ayrad

Facts and figures suggest that his two career best starts have been over this distance, latterly when showing courage to win a Listed race at Goodwood last time out. Lightly raced so he may be capable of more improvement, though the last 16 winners of the Coronation Cup have won at G3 level or higher, and he hasn't do this looks very difficult.

2

Flintshire

One of the top 2400m horses in the world as he showed when he beat Willie Cazals by 0.5L in the G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Vase last December. He had earlier finished ahead of Dolniya when they were second and fifth in last year's Arc at Longchamp but it was the filly who comfortably had his measure when they were first and second in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic over this distance at Meydan in March.

3

Pether’s Moon

A one-time handicapper who has risen up the ranks with two victories at G3 level and one at G2 level, with five of his six career wins coming over this trip of 2400m. His supporters will need to ignore a dismal run at Newmarket last time when he took on the leader a long way from home, ultimately dropping right out. This is his first ever visit to Epsom, and he will really need to appreciate its peculiarities to have a chance.

4

Romsdal

A shade disappointing last time when kicked for home early in the straight in a G2 over 2800m at York but he could not fend off two smart rivals when it mattered. He would want a fast pace here as stamina is his strongpoint though his two career wins have actually come over shorter distances than this. Has some winning hopes though he may need a couple of others to underperform for that to happen.

5

Sheikhzayedroad

An eight times winner who had a very rewarding spell last summer including when gaining a G1 success at Woodbine in Canada over this distance. However that looked a weak G1 by international standards and he was well beaten - finishing behind both Dolniya and Flintshire on his last start in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan in March. He tends to sit well off the pace and needs a strong gallop to aim at.

6

Dolniya

A very exciting filly, winning five of her eight starts and in brilliant form in 2015. Though she had a perfect trip, her stunning victory in March's G1 Dubai Sheema Classic (with Designs On Rome back in fourth) was her career best so far and she showed again that this distance is ideal. The ground is expected to be good or fast, also ideal for her.
