Chesham Stakes – Form Comments

Listed – 1400M – Turf

1

Cymric

It is rare for his trainer (whose team have been in fantastic form) to introduce a newcomer in a race like this but the stable did win this race last year. This looks his sort of distance according to pedigree.

2

Force

Made a very encouraging debut when third of ten in a 1200m maiden at Goodwood recently. With the stable - who won this last year - in fantastic form and with this extra distance sure to suit according to pedigree, he looks to belong on the shortlist.

3

Palawan

Started favourite for a maiden over 1200m at Leicester early this month, running a respectable fifth on that debut effort. From a much respected stable in two-year-old events but much progress will be needed from that first start.

4

Red Artist

Backed to favouritism for his debut in a 1200m maiden at Newcastle earlier this month and he duly won that 9-runner event, even though the opposition was not that strong. Rises in class and distance for this second outing but his first-season stable have been in great form.

5

Sixth Sense

Improved from his first two starts when showing a lot of speed to win a 1000m maiden in April. The move up to 1207m looked as though it should suit but in fact he was disappointing on his latest start.

6

Suits You

An inexpensive yearling purchase but he is an interesting challenger from France having accelerated in style to win a 1200m maiden event at Maisons-Laffitte late last month.

7

Tonkinese

Encouraging first time out, over 1200m, when unfancied in the betting. Moving up to this distance he made most of the running to score easily in a maiden at Leopardstown earlier this month. An expensive purchase as a yearling and he is beginning to look very useful.

8

Ballydoyle

Very heavily supported in the betting to win a 1200m maiden at The Curragh on her debut last month. She was only fourth but it was still an encouraging start and the form of the race has been enhanced since. The stable have won this event before.

9

Dessertoflife

On her second start, just six days before this event, she sprinted clear of her six rivals to win a 1400m maiden on soft ground at Doncaster. She looked potentially high class there and well worth a try in this higher company.

10

Lady Nayef

Four starts in maiden events so far and beaten at least 5l each time. It would be a strange result if this apparently modest filly managed to win this despite moving up to 1400m for the first time here.

11

Love The Kitten

Trained in the US by Wesley Ward, both her starts have been over a much shorter 900m, finishing second at Keeneland in April and at Woodbine (when a long odds-on favourite) in May. Not to be underestimated from this stable and her pedigree suggests possible improvement at this distance.

12

Sixties Sue

She has already been in action twice this month, firstly when showing real tenacity to win a 1200m maiden at Lingfield after leading from the gates and then when a good third in stronger company at Chepstow. Likely to be vulnerable to less exposed contenders here.
