HKJC purchases yearlings at DBS and Arqana

The Hong Kong Jockey Club secured a trio of athletic youngsters from last week’s DBS Premier Sale (25 & 26 August) in England including the first session’s top lot, a £200,000 colt by the first-crop sire Casamento.

A son of the outstanding Shamardal, whose best progeny to date includes Hong Kong’s Horse of the Year Able Friend, Casamento’s biggest on-track success came as a juvenile in the G1 Racing Post Trophy (1600m) at Doncaster. Lot 63 is from the family of G2 winner Talented and her son Carlton House, while the youngster’s second dam, Triple Joy, was a smart sprinter.

Also on day one, the Club purchased Lot 75. The colt is by the crack G1 miler Paco Boy out of the 1400m Listed winner Tora Bora.

The auction’s second and final session yielded a colt (Lot 399) by the in vogue speed source Dark Angel for an outlay of £130,000. The youngster, out of the sharp Caerleon mare Marseille Express, is a half-brother to three smart winners in Australia, North America and Britain. The family has produced a European Champion Sprinter in Committed, as well as the North American G1 winners Pharma and English Channel.

The Club was also among the purchasers at the recent Arqana August Yearling Sale (15 - 17 August) at Deauville when another Dark Angel colt was acquired. The youngster, Lot 194, was bought out of the prestigious sale’s Part 2 for €90,000.
