The Stewards today interviewed Trainer C S Shum and Dr P Schiff, Veterinary Officer, regarding a verbal exchange which took place between the two parties on the morning of Friday, 21 August 2015. This inquiry resulted from video footage of the exchange being obtained by the Stewards.
Evidence was today taken from Mr Shum and Dr Schiff whilst Dr P Curl, Executive Manager, Veterinary Regulation, was also in attendance.
After taking evidence from both Mr Shum and Dr Schiff and after viewing the relevant video footage, Mr Shum was charged with having breached Rule 155(5) in that he did conduct himself in an improper manner, the improper conduct being that on the morning of Friday, 21 August 2015, outside his stable complex at Sha Tin Racecourse, he did direct abusive and inappropriate language to Dr Schiff, an Official of the Club. Having given consideration to all the circumstances, the Stewards believed it appropriate that Mr Shum be fined the sum of $75,000. Mr Shum was advised of his right of appeal against this decision.
Following this matter, the Stewards interviewed Mr Shum and Mr S M Yung, head lad allocated to Mr Shum’s stable for the current 2015/2016 racing season regarding a verbal exchange which took place between the two parties on the evening of Saturday, 29 August 2015. This matter also followed video footage of the exchange being obtained by the Stewards.
After taking evidence from Mr Shum and Mr Yung and after viewing the relevant video footage, Mr Shum was severely reprimanded by the Stewards regarding his part in the verbal exchange and advised to ensure that at all times he conducts himself in a professional and appropriate manner. Mr Yung was advised that a report into his participation in the exchange would be forwarded to Stables Management for their consideration. He was also advised of his responsibility as an employee of the Club to conduct himself in an appropriate manner at all times.
