Celebrate National Day Race Meeting in style with cultural performances and delightful delicacies

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will be hosting a special National Day Race Meeting (photo 1) at Sha Tin Racecourse on Thursday 1 October, featuring festive performances from world-acclaimed artists as well as thrilling sporting action.  Chinese provincial cuisine and National Day themed souvenirs will also be available on course.  Visitors to Hong Kong will be offered free admission.

Spectacular cultural performances
Renowned Mainland opera artist and national first-class performer Liming Chi (photo 2) will perform at the National Day Race Meeting opening ceremony starting at 12:00 noon.  He will lead the singing of the National Anthem accompanied by the Hong Kong Police Band, as well as performing other all-time favourites. 

The China National Acrobatic Troupe will perform their award winning show, “Buckjumps and Rhythm – Pagoda of Bowl” (photo 3, 4).  The act won the Golden Clown Award in the International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo - the Oscars of the circus world.  

Chinese provincial cuisine at Mezza One
Mezza One, the food plaza at Sha Tin Racecourse, will present six specialty dishes from famous cities and provinces across China.  All dishes are made using authentic ingredients and spices and cooked according to traditional recipes.

Limited edition souvenir covers available for sale
The Club and the Hong Kong Post are collectively issuing a set of special souvenir covers featuring champion horses Able Friend and Aerovelocity. 2014/15 Horse of the Year Able Friend topped the international rankings in the spring of this year, becoming the first Hong Kong horse to be rated number one in the world. Champion Sprinter Aerovelocity also made history by winning three Group 1 races in as many jurisdictions (Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan) in a season. The limited edition covers are of great collectible value and will be available in Envelope Set (HK$190) and Deluxe Stamp Box Set (HK$590).

Two themed merchandise items - a pen (HK$160) and a scarf (HK$300) - featuring a specially commissioned design by celebrated cross-media artist Simon Ma will also be available for sale. 

All of these superb souvenirs will be on limited offer on the day of the races only, and can be obtained from designated themed sales counters at Sha Tin Racecourse, while stocks last.

Free admission for visitors to Hong Kong
Visitors to Hong Kong will be offered free admission at Sha Tin Racecourse for the National Day Race Meeting (1 October) and the following Sunday (4 October) on entering the Public Enclosure via tourist entrances and showing their valid travel documents.  

Feature races
Top-class sporting action is assured with the running of the season’s first two Group races – the 1,000m National Day Cup (HK Group 3) and the 1,400m Celebration Cup (HK Group 3). 

Ten races are programmed for the National Day Race Meeting, with the first starting at 1:00 pm.  Sha Tin Racecourse will open at 11:00 am on 1 October.
