Sprinters Stakes, Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Prix de lOpera to be simulcast for betting

28/09/2015

On Sunday, 4 October, the Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast for betting the Sprinters Stakes from Japan during that afternoon’s Sha Tin races plus the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and the Prix de l’Opera from France in the evening.

Sprinters Stakes from Nakayama Racecourse, Japan (Sunday, 4 October – 2:40pm)

The Sprinters Stakes (1200m G1 for 3yo+) is Japan’s premier sprint event and also one of the inaugural legs of the Global Sprint Challenge Series. The top finishers are often regulars in our LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint in December.

The Group 1-winning RICH TAPESTRY will be Hong Kong’s flag bearer on this occasion and the sole overseas challenger in this year’s renewal.  RICH TAPESTRY previously struck gold in Dubai and America and will be looking to match AEROVELOCITY’s achievement in March when that Hong Kong star won the G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen.

Final declarations with barrier draws for the Sprinters Stakes will be released on Friday, 2 October.

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and Prix de l’Opera from Longchamp Racecourse, France (Sun, 4 October - 1st race 9:10pm)

The world’s finest middle distance horses will once again gather for France’s annual autumn showpiece – the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1 2400m for 3yo+ colts, fillies and mares).

Sensational race mare TREVE is aiming to become the first horse ever to win the great race three times.  The French superstar moved a step closer to the historic feat when she waltzed away with the G1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on her last start.  Her strongest opponents are likely to come from the classic generation led by NEW BAY, GOLDEN HORN and JACK HOBBS, respective winners of the French Derby, English Derby and Irish Derby.

The Prix de l’Opera (G1 2000m for 3yo+ fillies and mares), despite being a supporting race on Arc Day, is always a contest of high quality. The winner of this race will earn an automatic invitation to the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

Final declarations with barrier draws for both Arc day races will be available late evening on Friday, 2 October at the Jockey Club’s website.
