Coolmore Stud Stakes (Ascot Vale Stakes) - Form Comments

29/10/2015

G1 – 1200m – Turf

1

Exosphere

Looks the best of Australia's sprinting three-year-olds after winning five of his past six starts and three in a row through August to October. Won the G1 Golden Rose at 1400m before dropping back to this distance (1200m) and winning the G2 Roman Consul Stakes by 3.3 lengths. First run in Melbourne and first down straight course but clearly the one to beat.

2

Ready For Victory

Drops back in trip from 1600m when 2 lengths 3rd to Press Statement in the G1 Caulfield Guineas. Placed at both runs at 1200m this season and both runs down the Flemington straight course have been sound including 1000m win on debut.

3

Super One

Trained by Michael Freedman in Singapore when he won his first four starts at 1100m and 1200m. Took on older horses at his Australian debut and ran 0.75 lengths 2nd to General Jackson in feature 1000m Sprint at Cranbourne. Among the chances.

4

Keen Array

Fast sprinter who has won four of his five starts this season. Generally ridden on speed but showed versatility last time when came off the pace to record 0.4 lengths win from Mogador in Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield. This is stronger but cannot fault consistency.

5

Japonisme

Won four on end at 1100m and 1200m, three on soft ground, in July and August. Then ran 2.4 lengths 4th to Exosphere (in field of five) in G2 Run To The Rose (1200m) on 29 August before 3.5 lengths 3rd to Exosphere in G2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) on 3 October.

6

Counterattack

Chris Waller trained galloper who's won Randwick 1100m and 1200m races, the first on heavy ground and the second on good track, from three runs this season. In between, was beaten 4.7 lengths behind Exosphere when 5th in the G2 Roman Consul Stakes on 3 October.

7

Dal Cielo

Set fast pace and held on well when 0.3 lengths 3rd to Bon Aurum in Guineas Prelude (1400m) on 26 September. Then fractious pre-race and severely checked early in race when 5.8 lengths 11th to Press Statement in the 1600m G1 Caulfield Guineas. Can forgive latest run and back to 1200m probably a plus.

8

Sebring Sun

Twice a winner at this distance on good and soft ground. Freshened since 2.8 lengths 3rd to Exosphere in G1 The Golden Rose (1400m) on 12 September. Ran second in strong barrier trial at 1030m at Rosehill on 16 October.

9

Black Vanquish

Showed great promise with two wins in April and May at this distance (including one down straight course) but hasn't performed well in two runs this season. Latest was 5 lengths last of 6 behind Keen Array in the Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) on 14 October.

10

Mogador

Slow to begin and ran on well when 0.4 lengths 2nd to Keen Array in 1200m Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes at Caulfield on 14 October. That followed strong finishing win at Warwick Farm 1000m at only other run this season. Potentially open to improvement.

11

Hellbent

Won first two starts in weaker grade before creditable 2.6 lengths 3rd to Counterattack and Spill The Beans in Listed Crowley Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 17 October. Still on the improve.

12

Ragazzo Del Corsa

Freshened up since 11.3 lengths 15th to Bon Aurum in 1400m Listed race at this track on 12 September. Knuckled at start but driven forward to lead from wide draw that day so can forgive. Did win down the straight course at 1000m last season.
