Melbourne Cup Day races to be simulcast for betting

29/10/2015

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast for betting six races from the Melbourne Cup Day Meeting at Flemington on Tuesday, 3 November. (1st race 10:20 am)

The A$6,000,000 Melbourne Cup is not only the richest handicap in the world but also one of the most anticipated event of the Australian racing and social calendar. At 3pm of the first Tuesday of every November, Australia comes to a standstill as people tuned in to catch the action of the race that literally stops a nation. It is in a little more than 3 minutes the Cup dreams are made for some but shattered for the others.

The Cup has now become a truly international event with about 10 overseas trained runners due to line-up in the final field of 24.  Hong Kong based jockeys will be partnering some of the leading contenders with Zac Purton onboard the likely favourite FAME GAME from Japan; Gerald Mosse renewing partnership with the three time runner-up RED CADEAUX; Brett Prebble taking over the Aidan O’Brien trained St. Leger runner-up BONDI BEACH and Chad Schofield riding the Australian Oaks winning mare GUST OF WIND.

The six races to be simulcast from Australia are:

Schweppes #FlemingtonFling (1000M for 3yo)
Lexus Hybrid Plate (Desirable Stakes) - Listed 1400M for 3yo fillies
Melbourne Cup (G1 3200M 3yo+ handicap)
James Boag’s Symphony Stakes (Melbourne Cup Day Plate) - Listed 1800M
MSS Security Sprint (Always Welcome Stakes) - Listed 1200M
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes (Maybe Mahal Stakes) – G3 1400M for 4yo+ fillies & mares

Final declarations with barrier draws for the Melbourne Cup will be available on the afternoon of Saturday, 31 October while the final declarations with barrier draws for the other races will be published on Friday, 30 October.
