The Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast for betting the Japan Cup from Tokyo Racecourse during the Sha Tin race meeting on Sunday, 29 November (race time 2:40pm).
Now at its 35th running, the Japan Cup (G1 2400m for 3yo+) is rated one of the most important mile and a half contests in the world alongside the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Breeders’ Cup Turf. With a total prize of approximately HK$33 million it is the richest race staged by the Japan Racing Association.
It is 10 years since an overseas-trained runner last tasted Japan Cup glory. Four overseas challengers are looking to reverse this trend with main hopes pinned on high class French 3yo ERUPT and Ascot Gold Cup winner TRIP TO PARIS. The home defence has a formidable look to it with the brilliant but unpredictable GOLD SHIP leading the charge alongside LOVELY DAY, who has come into his own this year with 6 Graded victories in 8 starts.
Final declarations with barrier draws for the Japan Cup will be available on the afternoon of Thursday, 26 November.
