Spectacular programmes lined up for LONGINES Hong Kong International Races in December

Sha Tin Racecourse will host one of world racing’s most celebrated occasions – the LONGINES Hong Kong International Races (HKIR) (photo1, 2) on Sunday 13 December at Sha Tin Racecourse.  Fans coming to Sha Tin to witness the truly world-class on-course action can also enjoy an array of exceptional off-track entertainment, including the appearance of superstar Simon Baker and renowned Cantopop singer Miriam Yeung to perform at the opening variety show.  All racegoer will receive a souvenir LONGINES HKIR cap upon admission to the racecourses.

Sunday 13 December – LONGINES Hong Kong International Races
Sha Tin Racecourse

Equine stars from all over the world will compete in four Group 1 races worth a total purse of $83million.  Off the track, Hollywood star Simon Baker (photo3), best known for his lead role in the television series The Mentalist, will be attending the races as the presentation guest.  Hong Kong diva Miriam Yeung (photo 4) will take the stage to wow spectators with some of her all-time favourites at the opening variety show.  An array of spectacular on-course activities has also been arranged for racegoers to enjoy during the day.

  • Racegoers entering Sha Tin and Happy Valley Racecourses on 13 December will receive a complimentary LONGINES HKIR Souvenir Cap (photo 5) as a free gift (before Race 5 or while stocks last).
  • Also entertaining racing fans at the Opening Variety Show will be the highly technical acrobatic performance “Duo Stunt” (photo 6) by the world-renowned Sichuan Suining Acrobatic Troupe.  A Mass Drum Performance by local troupe Ban's Gig Drums will be followed.
  • A wide selection of local and international culinary treats will be on offer at Mezza One, the food plaza at Sha Tin Racecourse.  Merchandise counters will offer a range of exclusive LONGINES HKIR themed merchandise (photo 7).
  • After racing, a captivating pyrotechnic display (photo 8) will round things off perfectly by lighting up the night sky in honour of this year’s champions.

Wednesday 9 December - LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship
Happy Valley Racecourse

The LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship (IJC) (photo 9) will be held on Wednesday 9 December, featuring some of the world’s very best jockeys.  Beer Garden at Happy Valley Racecourse will continue to bring a variety of entertainment to the racegoers.

  • Twelve competing riders in the LONGINES IJC will join a special opening ceremony on the turf track before the start of the competition.  This will be followed by a spectacular pyrotechnic display (photo 10). 

 

  • Fans voting for their favourite competing jockeys in person at Happy Valley Racecourse will receive a souvenir bandana.  Fans creating the best cheering slogan will have the chance to win a $10,000 travel certificate.
  • Racing ambassadors in colourful costumes (photo 11) will greet the racegoers throughout the night in the Beer Garden.  Liza Melfi and the band will take the stage between races.

 

  • A wide selection of local and international culinary treats will be on offer at the Trackside Food Kiosk.

7:40pm (after Race 3) – Opening Ceremony

  • International culinary treats at Trackside Food Kiosk
