Champions Cup to be beamed live for betting

30/11/2015

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast for betting the Champions Cup from Chukyo Racecourse in Nagoya, Japan, during the Sha Tin race meeting on Sunday, 6 December (race time 2:30pm).

Formerly known as the Japan Cup Dirt, the race was renamed the Champions Cup in 2014 and underwent a major revamp, which saw the left-handed Chukyo Racecourse chosen as the venue and the race distance changed to 1800m. Open to horses aged three years or older, the Group One contest carries total prize money of about HK$12million and brings together the finest dirt runners not just from the Japan Racing Association, but also from local government-run tracks across Japan.

Hong Kong’s GUN PIT will be the sole overseas representative this year. The Caspar Fownes-trained star has conquered all before him in seven runs on Sha Tin’s all-weather track and warmed up for the Champions Cup with a scintillating win in a Class 1 handicap over 1650m earlier this month, lowering his own course record in the process.

Awaiting GUN PIT is a host of local big names in Japanese dirt-track racing including defending champion HOKKO TARUMAE, dual JBC Classic winner COPANO RICKEY and Japan Dirt Derby victor NONKONO YUME.

Final declarations with barrier draws for the Champions Cup will be available on the afternoon of Thursday, 3 December.
