LONGINES Hong Kong Vase V Post-race quotes

13/12/2015

1st – Highland Reel – Ryan Moore, jockey
“He did it very easily, he’s turned into a very good horse.  When Flintshire came by me, I thought he was in trouble but he dug in.”

2nd - Flintshire – Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to the owner Khalid Abdullah
“Absolutely no excuses, he has run very well.”

3rd – Dariyan – Christophe Soumillon, jockey
“I had a horse on my outside leaning on me the whole way which did not help me. Otherwise, I would have been up there with Flintshire.”

4th - Ming Dynasty – Umberto Rispoli, jockey
“He ran too fresh and did not settle early but he relaxed down the back stretch and ran well all the same and will be a lovely four-year-old.”

5th – Helene Happy Star – Joao Moreira, jockey
“It was a good run and he had every chance – no excuses- he just wasn’t good enough.”

6th - Dominant – Zac Purton, jockey
“He ran a good race; they just went too slow for him. Tommy put some pace in down the back but the damage was well and truly done by then.”

7th - Preferment – Hugh Bowman, jockey
“I was satisfied with him and he did well down the back, getting into a really good rhythm but he doesn’t have the turn of foot required at this level yet.  He had his chance, although the horse I was following did not help me much, probably didn’t hinder a great deal either. He was OK and he is only going to get better.”

8th - Khaya – Craig Williams, jockey
“Unfortunately, he was naughty in the gates. It’s the first time he’s been ridden back and in fact he’s stayed on well in the end. He was the best closer.”

9th - Ensuring – Brett Prebble, jockey
“The sit and sprint didn’t suit him.”

10th - Cirrus Des Aigles – Olivier Peslier, jockey
“He is just not the same horse. With the slow pace, I would have gone forward much earlier but I could not make him go faster. It is a shame.”

11th – Cannock Chase – Pat Smullen, jockey
“The stop start pace didn’t suit him. He’s a horse that wants a nice pace to run at. He was on and off the bridle the whole way. The pace just kept steadying and then quickening. He just needs a true run race.”

12th - Harbour Master – Tommy Berry, jockey
“It was never going to see that horse (the winner). He’s not good enough for them anyway, so I thought I’d give him every chance so I put him on the pace.”

13th - Helene Super Star – Douglas Whyte, jockey
“No excuses. He has run pretty well for him at this level.”
