Victoria Derby winner last October. Finished hard, at second run since, when nose 2nd to Palentino in G 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 5 March and protested unsuccessfully. Then raced handy and too good when 1.8 lengths winner from Montaigne and Jameka in G 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on 19 March. One to beat.

Vanbrugh

Over-raced early but still finished of well when 3.25 lengths 6th to Palentino in G 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 5 March at second run this year. Then solid effort when 3.9 lengths 4th to Tarzino in the G 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on 19 March. Distance should suit.

Etymology

Settled too far back when 5.9 lengths 10th to Le Romain in the G 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on 5 March. Then similarly placed throughout when 4.6 lengths 6th to Tarzino in the G 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on 19 March. Ran 2 lengths 2nd to Tarzino in Victoria Derby when stepped up to this distance range last year.

Tally

Good on-pace stayer who has won four from four this year. Impressed with 2.25 lengths win from Palentino in the G 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) at Moonee Valley on 18 March and shouldn’t be underestimated.

Sovereign Nation

Raced handy and battled on OK when 3.3 lengths 4th to Old North in the G 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday. Progressing well but this is tougher.

Torgersen

Unwound big finish from last early when 1.3 lengths 2nd  to Old North in the G 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday. Likely to appreciate rise in trip.

Gold Ambition

Ran on well when 1.5 lengths 3rd to Le Romain and Press Statement in the G 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on 5 March.  Then moderate when 10.2 lengths 11th to Tarzino in the G 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on 19 March. Distance might test.

What’s The Story

Narrow winner from Oh So Splendido at 2100m on soft ground at Ellerslie in February. Then struck early interference and ran on well when short head 2nd to Rangipo in the G 1 NZ Derby (2400m) on 5 March. All runs have been on soft ground.

Tavago

Struck early interference and made late ground when 1.9 lengths 6th to Rangipo in the G 1 NZ Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie on 5 March. Greater depth in this race but looks like will run out the trip.

Crosley Hotshot

Up in class but did run on strongly when neck 2nd to Multifacets in the Warwick Farm 1600m BM 71 on 9 March before settling too far back when 8.5 lengths 9th to Tarzino in the G 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on 19 March.

Oh So Splendido

Maiden who ran on strongly in two 2100m runs at Ellerslie in February in New Zealand. Then struck severe interference in early stages of the G 1 NZ Derby (2400m) when 8.3 lengths 13th behind Rangipo. Settled well back and made some late ground when 8 lengths 8th to Tarzino in the G 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on 19 March.

Has to improve sharply on 7.8 lengths 11th  to Old North in the G 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday.

G 1 VRC Oaks winner at 2500m last November. Caught wide and ran well at second start this year when 2 lengths 5th to Palentino in G 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on 5 March. Then raced handy and held on well when 2 lengths 3rd to Tarzino in the G 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on 19 March. Chance.
