Audemars Piguet QEII Cup

BLAZING SPEED (HK)
Trainer Tony Cruz said: “Condition-wise I'd say he's just as fit as he was last year. Health-wise he's very good and he's drawn to have a good run. He can run well again with the Japanese looking the main dangers.”

DESIGNS ON ROME, WERTHER, HELENE HAPPY STAR (HK)
Trainer John Moore said: “Everything’s fine this morning after their gallops yesterday and I’m very happy with them, they’re exactly where I want them to be with the race just two days away.”

ERTIJAAL (SAF)
Worked on the turf track and quickened down the home straight under Douglas Whyte to clock 50.2s (27.5, 22.7).
Assistant trainer, Trevor Brown, said: “His weight remains spot on and we are very happy about that. He had his final work today and Dougie gave me a lot of confidence this morning. He also isn't concerned with the draw in 11. It has been great to be here again with another horse, and enjoying the great hospitality from the Club. We have come full circle too, catching up with Gavin Lerena who rode Ertijaal to his Group 1 in South Africa, and he has been watching his works here and thinks he looks as good as he did in Cape Town. All systems go.”

HIGHLAND REEL (IRE)
Had a solid gallop on the all-weather track under work rider David Bergin and clocked 1m 16.8s (27.6, 25.6, 23.6).

HORSE OF FORTUNE (HK)
Worked on the all-weather track and clocked 25.9s for 400m.
Trainer Tony Millard said: “We’ve got him as good as he’s ever been, he’s an honest horse and if we have a trouble free run we’ve got a chance of getting in amongst it.

“We just sprinted him up 400 metres this morning and his work was good. The draw is a little bit of a concern but there are a few Hong Kong horses drawn on the outside there, which will more or less be in the same place as him. The Japanese horses are drawn beautifully.

“It’s a race and if you have a ticket to it there’s a chance. You have to take into account that five or six horses are going to want to be in the same spot, and that’s just behind the pace, and some of those horses are drawn well, so we could get a scrummage and a back-log.”

LOVELY DAY (JPN)
Exercised in the quarantine area and then accompanied Satono Crown for paddock and starting gate schooling.
Trainer Yasutoshi Ikee, who was watching his horse carefully at the paddock and the starting gate, commented: “He had a breeze yesterday, but he was flexible and walked nicely this morning.  He is very relaxed.  He walked at the paddock ring and schooled at the starting gate with Satono Crown and he had no issue with either.”

NUOVO RECORD (JPN)
Remained in the quarantine area for light exercise.

RISING ROMANCE (AUS)
Worked on the rain-soaked all-weather track under regular work rider Alexandra Slattery.
Trainer David Hayes said: “She's fit and well and the track was okay for light work despite the rain. I wouldn't mind some rain for her come Sunday. We're hoping for the best now after she drew well yesterday.”

SATONO CROWN (JPN)
Interval work around the turf course, ending with an easy breeze down the home straight, clocking 57.2s for 800m (30.3, 26.9) under Tomohiro Takahashi. Paddock schooled and then went through the starting gate at the 1000m turf start.
Tomohiro Takahashi, the assistant trainer to Noriyuki Hori, commented: “I believe Satono Crown’s condition has improved since his last run (G2 Kyoto Kinen in February).  He was shying a bit in the stretch. He is a type of horse who sometimes loses concentration when he is alone, however, in the race there will be more horses with him, so it is not a concern.”
