22/04/2016

As the World’s 9th highest-rated G1 race, the highly anticipated Audemars Piguet QEII Cup will be run this Sunday (24 April) at Sha Tin Racecourse.  Joining the big day will be the renowned celebrity owner Michele Reis (photo 1), the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup Ambassador for the third time, who will present a souvenir to the winning jockey after the race.

The Audemars Piguet QEII Cup will be run as Race 8 over 2000m, and offers total prize money of HK$20 million.  The race was first staged in 1975 to commemorate a visit to Hong Kong by Queen Elizabeth II and it continues to be run annually each spring.

The Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal of the Hong Kong SAR, The Hon Chief Justice Geoffrey Ma Tao Li, will present the trophy to winning connections after the race.  Mr. François-Henry Bennahmias, Chief Executive Officer of Audemars Piguet and Mr. David von Gunten, Chief Executive Officer Greater China of Audemars Piguet, will present souvenirs to the winning owner and trainer respectively.

Two new APQEII Cup apparel items will be available this year, namely a Sleeveless Jacket ($280) (photo 2) and a Polo T-Shirt ($180) (photo 3 ).  All merchandise will be on sale at the souvenir shops, “Gift at Races” and Members’ Enclosure Sales Counter.

Another of the day’s racing highlights will be the Hong Kong Group 3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup over 2,400m, to be run as Race 5.  Admission to Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday will start at 11:00 am, with the first race at 1:00 pm.
