Audemars Piguet QEII Cup V Post-race jockey quotes

24/04/2016

1st – Werther - Hugh Bowman
"Today I allowed him to really relax throughout the race and we’ve seen the best of him. I had a suspicion after the Derby we would see a better horse against better opposition but I certainly didn’t expect him to perform to the level he did this afternoon.”

2nd – Military Attack - Nash Rawiller
"He ran great. The winner accelerated incredibly well and we couldn't quite match him but he just kept coming and he felt like he wouldn't take any harm from it. We got a soft run early and then he finished the race off. Really good effort."

3rd – Blazing Speed - Neil Callan
"I thought it was a crack race. I said all along rain would be a worry. He's a tough and genuine type. I kept him four wide with cover because the inside was a bit cut up and he got a nice trial into it. Once he let down, he spun his wheels a bit but overall I'm pretty proud of him.”

4th – Lovely Day - Joao Moreira
"He ran really well. He actually didn't relax as much as I would have hoped. I don't think he would have won had he been more relaxed but it may have cost him a couple of spots using up that energy. Had he settled better he might have run second. I was very proud to ride him today. He gave me the feeling he can win an international Group 1 race."

5th - Designs On Rome - Tommy Berry
"He ran out of his skin. They got going very early in this race, about the time I'd usually get going on this bloke and so I couldn't pinch a couple of quick lengths on him but he just kept coming."

6th – Nuovo Record - Yutaka Take
"The track was too soft for her so maybe she used a lot of energy to be trying to get running in the straight."

7th – Helene Happy Star - Blake Shinn
"From the draw he ran a terrific race. Out of his skin. The draw certainly cost him a bit."

8th – Highland Reel - Ryan Moore
"He just didn't handle the ground."

9th - Ertijaal - Douglas Whyte
Not much went right for him and he didn't quite handle the going."

10th – Rising Romance - Damian Lane
"She was out sprinted.”

11th – Horse Of Fortune - Karis Teetan
"He ran OK to the 600m but the the pressure told in this class. He'll come on."

12th – Satono Crown - Zac Purton
"Yes he was a little disappointing, maybe he didn't handle the soft ground. He jumped well and was in a lovely spot but when pressure came on he didn't respond."

13th – Helene Super Star - Brett Prebble
"He had a few things against him including the shocking draw and he doesn't like the ground.”
