False outside rail removed for Sundays Sha Tin meeting

25/04/2016

The false outside rail will not be in place at this Sunday’s meeting at Sha Tin Racecourse, the Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today. The Club instituted the false rail, four metres from the outside fence, at the commencement of the current season during meetings where 1,000-metre races were conducted and the inside rail position is set at A, A+3, B or B+2. There is one race scheduled for Sunday over 1,000 metres, a Griffin contest which has drawn seven entries.

“At the beginning of the season, we added the false rail to eliminate the overuse of the stand-side ground and the feedback has been quite positive from all stakeholders,” said Mr. Anthony Kelly, Executive Director, Racing Business and Operations. “With the recent weather last Sunday and the chance for more, combined with the fact there is just one straight course race with a fairly small group of entries, we thought it best to leave the course as wide as possible this week with the two Group 1 events programmed. The false rail will be back at its next scheduled usage.”
