Grade 1 - 2400m – Turf

1

Dee Majesty

First G1 win in Satsuki Sho last time. Debuted last September, won a novice race at his third start and was forced to withdraw from the G2 Hopeful Stakes in December due to a minor leg problem. Kicked off this season in February with G3 Kyodo News Service Hai (1800m) win.  Hold-up runner and handles firm and good ground.

2

Meiner Honey

Set the pace in his most recent start, G2 Aoba Sho over 2400m, but was chased closely from behind and tired to finish 8th.  Likely pace-setter and favours a softer track.

3

Makahiki

The colt showed strong acceleration from second last in the Satsuki Sho but could not catch the winner.  Clocked the fastest time over the last three furlongs in all four career starts.  Usually settles rear and appreciates sound surface.

4

Rainbow Line

Finished third in the G1 NHK Mile Cup latest.  With 10 career starts, the Stay Gold-sired colt has only raced over 1600m and 1800m but connections are confident about 2400m.  Hold up runner and seems well-suited by firm track.

5

Air Spinel

His first three races were over a mile including second-place in the G1 Asahi Hai Futurity Stakes last December. Finished third in the G2 Yayoi Sho (2000m) and fifth but promoted to fourth in G1 Satsuki Sho next start on 17 April.  No track worries.

6

Agnes Forte

One win in nine career starts came in a novice race (2000m) last October. Winless since but placed second in the G2 Kyoto Shimbun Hai (2200m) on 7 May last time.  Sits handy and yet to experience yielding or soft surface.

7

Lord Quest

The 2015 G3 Niigata Nisai Stakes (1600m) winner Lord Quest placed second in the G2 Hopeful Stakes (2000m) last December.  He started off the season with a third-place in the G2 Spring Stakes (1800m) in March and ran gamely until 100m out but tired to finish 8th subsequently in the G1 Satsuki Sho. Three-quarter length 2nd in G1 NHK Mile Cup latest on 8 May. Trainer Shigeyuki Kojima said he would handle the 2400m.  Settles rare and no ground worries.

8

Satono Diamond

The Deep Impact colt won on debut over 2000m last November and followed up in an allowance race in December. Kicked off the 2016 season with win in G3 Kisaragi Sho (1800m) in February.  Sent to the Satsuki Sho as favourite, he edged forward in the stretch but was overtaken by top two finishers.  No ground issues.  Races midfield.  Yet to run over left-handed course.

9

Mount Robson

Ran fourth on-pace in the Satsuki Sho last start and showed acceleration in the stretch but weakened thereafter and placed sixth.  The 2400m should be to his advantage.  Hold up runner.  No track worries.

10

Smart Odin

He has already won three graded races, the G3 Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes (1800m) last November, G3 Mainichi Hai (1800m) in March and the G2 Kyoto Shimbun Hai (2200m) latest on 7 May.  With a strong late kick, the long and wide stretch at Tokyo should suit him.  Hold up runner.  Relishes firm surface.

11

Azur Rose

His dam won G3 Prix de la Nonette in France in 2005. Azur Rose had second straight win in the Listed Principal Stakes (2000m) at Tokyo on 7 May latest.  Races closed to lead.  No worries on surface.

12

Leontes

The second favourite for the Satsuki Sho latest, he took command but was overtaken at 100m out.  Finished fourth but was demoted to fifth for causing interference.  Yet to run left-handed but long stretch course at Tokyo should suit him.  Hold up runner and handles softer track as well.

13

Red Eldest

Debuted in January, the colt won a novice (2200m) in February and a lower-class stakes race (2200m) in March.  He clocked the last three furlongs in 33.9 seconds and grabbed second-place in the G2 Aoba Sho in April latest.  With a strong late kick, the long stretch course at Tokyo is suitable.  Settles rear.  Only raced on firm to date.

14

Vanquish Run

Placed or won in all seven starts, Vanquish Run ran second (demoted from first) in an allowance race (2400m) in February, won Azarea Sho (2400m) in April and showed a strong stretch run for his first graded race success in the G2 Aoba Sho (2400m) at Tokyo on 30 April  latest.  Races close to midfield or better than midfield. Handles good and firm.

15

Immortal

Started off the 2016 season with a second-place to Dee Majesty in the G3 Kyodo News Service Hai (1800m) in February. Disappointing 11th in the G1 NHK Mile Cup (1600m) at Tokyo on 8 May latest.  He has a long strong late kick.  Handles going from good through firm.

16

Brave Smash

Won the Listed Saudi Arabia Cup (1600m) at the track last October. Returned in the G1 NHK Mile Cup on 8 May saving ground on the rail to finish eighth.  Stretching to this longer distance may pose a bit of concern, but the Tokyo track should suit.  No concern about the track condition.

17

Prophet

Second in the G3 Sapporo Nisai Stakes (1800m) last September and won the G3 Keisei Hai (2000m) in January.  That was one of the only two starts for the colt this season, the other being his 11th-place finish in the G1 Satsuki Sho latest.  Sits handy.  No track worries.

18

Prodigal Son

Maiden win last June and took the Listed Fuyo Stakes (2000m) next start in September before second-place in the G3 Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes (1800m) in November.  Started off in the G2 Aoba Sho, but overraced which took the edge him off, and he was fourth.  Tokyo Racecourse suits his style.  Hold up runner.
