Jockey J Moreira

30/05/2016

At the Sha Tin racemeeting conducted yesterday, Jockey J Moreira pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding and was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 16 June 2016 on which day he may resume race riding.  During the inquiry, Jockey Moreira requested the Racing Stewards defer the commencement date of the suspension until after the Happy Valley racemeeting which is scheduled to be conducted on Thursday, 9 June 2016.  During this period, two Hong Kong racemeetings are scheduled to be conducted.

Jockey Moreira has this morning informed the Racing Stewards that he neglected to advise yesterday that he had accepted a number of race riding engagements in Group 1 races to be conducted at Eagle Farm Racecourse, Brisbane, Australia on Saturday, 11 June 2016.

As the Racing Stewards would have permitted Jockey Moreira to fulfil these race riding engagements had they been made aware of the commitments when ruling on the period of suspension, the commencement date of the suspension would have been such that allowed Jockey Moreira to fulfil the race riding engagements on 11 June 2016.

It has therefore been decided that Jockey Moreira’s period of suspension from riding in races is now to commence on Sunday, 12 June 2016 with the expiry date remaining as Thursday, 16 June 2016 on which day he may resume race riding.  Two Hong Kong racemeetings will be held during the revised period of suspension which is consistent with the previous ruling.
