G1 - 2409m – Turf

1

Master Carpenter

Facts and figures suggest that he didn't run up to his best on his most recent start, having previously run a close third in a G3 at Chester. In his busy 28-race career he is yet to compete over this distance and it is a brave move to do that now he is in this hot G1. All the evidence suggests he will struggle.

2

Postponed

The winner of his last four starts - two at G1 level and two at G2 level - and judging by his two Meydan victories this year latterly with a stylish victory in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic - when he had some international stars trailing behind him - he is better than ever right now for his new and highly successful stable. Sure to start a warm favourite, even though this is his first visit to this unusual track.

3

Roseburg

A decent handicapper - the winner of three of his 11 starts - mostly competing over shorter trips than this. He acted as pacemaker to Postponed when that brilliant colt won a G2 at Longchamp last September, and that will surely be his role again here.

4

Second Step

Returned to 2016 action in a 2800m G2 at York last month, and ran out of gas in the closing stages suggesting that he is better off over this shorter journey. He won a G1 over 2400m in Germany last August but that was not a strong contest for the grade, and this looks challenging. Having his first attempt around this track.

5

Star Storm

Showed massive improvement in September and October 2015, first winning a maiden, then a handicap and then a G3. However his two starts this season have both been uninspiring and, though the stable have been having some winners, this guy's task looks very challenging in his first G1 and first Epsom start.

6

Arabian Queen

Always likely to be best known for her 50-1 victory in a G1 at York last August which she stole under a masterful front-running ride from Silvestre de Sousa, fending off subsequent Arc winner Golden Horn. Easily her best start since came last time when second in a G2, and it is also positive that her only previous start on this idiosyncratic track resulted in a comfortable G3 success.

7

Found

A hugely talented filly whose toughness is shown from the fact that she raced in four G1's in different countries in the space of seven weeks late last year including outgunning Arc winner Golden Horn after a terrific battle in the G1 Longines Breeders' Cup Turf at Keeneland last October. A little disappointing in two of her three starts this season, twice a beaten favourite, though she can never be ignored and her trainer thinks this track could play to her strengths.

8

Simple Verse

She started to make rapid improvement at about this time last year, and wound up 2015 with a super tough victory in the St Leger at Doncaster and then a G1 at Ascot. Her debut second this season should put her right at the top of her game for this G1 test whilst a strong pace will help her capitalise on her undoubted stamina.
