G2 – 1200m – Turf

1

Broken Stones

An expensive colt who was made favourite for his debut, in a 1200m maiden at York. Some of his rivals charged off too fast, and he sat chilly until pouncing late and winning nicely. The third horse has won well since.

2

Caravaggio

Highly impressive when winning both starts and though his trainer was worried about the softening ground last time, Caravaggio easily dismissed some smart rivals in that 1000m Listed event at The Curragh. The likely favourite with a big chance.

3

Dolokhov

Second of eleven in a low grade affair at Leicester last month. That was an improved performance, but surely not good enough to suggest he has any real chance here.

4

Garth Rockett

With some speed in his pedigree but from a small stable who surely wouldn't expect to win a race like this with a first-time starter.

5

Grand Coalition

Has had this on his agenda since winning a 1200m maiden on fast ground at The Curragh earlier this month. He had scorched out of the stalls that day, and never looked threatened. Softer ground and better opposition here.

6

Lundy

Three good efforts so far, especially at Naas last month when he only just failed to catch a very well regarded colt in a Listed contest. A fast run 1200m - surely guaranteed here - looks ideal.

7

Medieval

Although he was under pressure early on for his racing debut at Newbury, he kept responding to pressure to win that 1207m maiden. The trainer said he liked the slow ground, conditions also expected here.

8

Mehmas

Won his first two starts and was especially impressive second time over 1207m at Newbury. The smart colt he outgunnned that day outspeeded him over 1000m at Sandown last time, but it was still a good run from a poor gate.

9

Mokarris

Well bet prior to his first start in a 1200m event on a softish surface at Haydock last month, showing an impressive burst of acceleration to beat some potentially smart rivals. A player here.

10

Monks Stand

Has experience on his side with two wins from four starts. On his latest start he looked briefly in trouble after getting outpaced early but was well on top of some fair rivals at the end. Might not be quite good enough.

11

Nibras Bounty

Improved significantly from his first to his second start, winning a 1200m novice event on fast ground at Newmarket. However this looks a much stronger event, and a win looks unlikely.

12

Parys Mountain

Briefly led close home on his debut in a 1200m maiden at Leicester last month, but was passed by today's rival Thunder Snow near the end. Fast ground that day, much softer is expected today.

13

Psychedelic Funk

By Choisir who himself completed a memorable Royal Ascot double and this Irish-trained colt is  very fast having won both his starts obliterating his rivals most recently. A live player in a race usually won by a well fancied contender.

14

Rusumaat

Moved up to this distance to win a novice by a runaway 7l verdict. He's improving but that was a weak event and he looks unlikely to give the stable another win in this event.

15

Stoneyford Lane

Two good efforts out of two so far including a good second in a normally strong event at Chester over 1015m. However that form has worked out poorly and his winning chances don't look strong.

16

Thunder Snow

A nicely bred youngster though weak in the betting for his first start. However that didn't stop him easily, outspeeding his rivals in a 1200m maiden on his racecourse debut late last month. Takes a big leap up in class here.

17

Van Der Decken

He accelerated nicely in the closing stages to win a 1200m maiden at The Curragh, beating ten rivals and looking comfortable on the soft ground. However the second horse that day has let the form
down since.

18

Yalta

Dismissed his rivals easily on his debut and then did better still by skipping clear of his three good rivals over this distance at Pontefract.  The stable won this event last year and this fast and powerfully-built colt must be considered.

19

Silvertoni

Runs here in preference to the 1000m Listed race later. This US-trainer speedster has been impressive on winning both starts, latterly over 1000m at Churchill Downs. His pedigree suggests turf and this 1200m will be OK.
