G1 - 1600m – Turf

Connections swerved Epsom's Derby, preferring this 1600m test for this fast-improving colt who surged to a stylish Irish 2000 Guineas (G1, 1600m) victory last time, beating English 2000 Guineas (G1) winner Galileo Gold. Good ground or softer ideal.

Only narrowly failed to land a shock win in a  Longchamp G1 last October. However he has been well beaten in all his starts since and is apparently running in a pacemaking capacity for Emotionless here.

Narrowly failed to win a maiden on his most recent start. He is surely in this G1 as pacemaker for Awtaad.

Looked capable of reaching the top, winning his first two starts at two including a runaway G2 strike at Doncaster over 1400m. A dismal last display on his final 2015 start but he suffered a knee injury mid-race so that run can be forgotten.

First Selection

Had a good two-year-old career including a G3 win over 1415m. Well beaten in Newmarket's 2000 Guineas (G1) but did much better (at 55) in the French equivilent, beating all the locals though thrashed by Ireland's The Gurkha.

Galileo Gold

One of the UK's leading two-year-olds in 2015 and clearly had thrived since as - under forceful tactics -  he won Newmarket's 2000 Guineas (G1) on his return. Nothing went right for him in the Irish equivilent but he still ran a fine second to Awtaad.

The Gurkha

From a stable with a mighty record in this event, and he immediately became favourite for this after his devastating defeat of France's leading colts in Deauville's French 2000 Guineas over the straight 1600m, clear from half-way.

Unbalanced at Newmarket on his 2016 debut when a fair sixth in the G1 2000 Guineas but looked to be thriving when showing smart acceleration to win a Listed event over 1613m at Sandown last time. Most effective on quick ground.
