Chesham Stakes V Form Comments

17/06/2016

Listed – 1400m – Turf

1

Admiralty Arch

Earned a place here when winning a 1200m maiden at York last month, always prominent before eventually wearing down the leader. Bred to be helped by this extra distance.

2

Churchill

Only a maiden but two of the last three winners of this had a similar profile. Third in a 1200m maiden at The Curragh on his first start, never looking like winning but running on late and from a stable that always commands respect.

3

Cunco

The first offspring of the mighty Frankel to race and despite being fractious on the way to post for that 1207m Newbury maiden he showed an astonishing burst of speed to mow down his rivals. Very interesting here.

4

Devil's Bridge

Finished 2 lengths third behind today's rival Frankuus when they both made their debuts over 1400m at Haydock 9 days ago. This colt did miss the break that day whilst Frankuus was fast from the gates so may get closer this time.

5

Eldorado Creek

A well-beaten 9th of 14 on his debut at Haydock last month. He will have to improve an awful lot in the few weeks since to have any chance here.

6

Filudo

A first time starter from a stable going very well. A cheap purchase as a foal but became much more expensive as a two-year-old.

7

Frankuus

This son of Frankel made his debut over this distance at Haydock this month. Despite being easy in the betting market and briefly looking in trouble he came through strongly to win. He certainly deserves his place here.

8

Isomer

Looked like winning on his debut when leading about 200m out in a 1207m Newbury maiden only for Cunco - the first offspring of Frankel to race - to fly past him late on.

9

Justice Frederick

Missed the break on his debut, finishing third. However he was much quicker from the gates second time and was in command of that 1400m Gowran Park maiden in the closing stages.

10

Magillen

Produced a strong late effort which nearly succeeded in a 1200m maiden at Leicester last month. A very positive first effort.

11

Masham Star

Has gradually improved and, despite being pushed along for much of the journey, ultimately was an easy 4 lengths winner over 1200m at Ayr.  The move up to 1400m should be fine though the ground will be slower.

12

Mr Scaramanga

Won the middle of his three starts - over 1194m - then dropped to 1000m where he ran a good third considering he had a penalty and also stumbled early on. Up to 1400m now and may be vulnerable to less exposed types.

13

Walter Raleigh

Beaten 18 lengths in a Newmarket maiden on his only start. Impossible to enthuse over his chance.

14

Aiming For Rio

This French-trained filly from a small stable was a cheap purchase but has shown plenty of pace to win her last two starts latterly over 1200m at Deauville. Not certain to be suited by this longer distance according to her pedigree.

15

Thora Barber

A very cheap purchase who has already proved a bargain by winning his second start and running third (at 33-1) in a much stronger 1207m event subsequently. She wouldn't need to improve much on that to feature here.
