Champions will be crowned on Sunday at Hong Kongs Season Finale Race Meeting

07/07/2016

The 2015/16 racing season has now reached the final furlong, with the Season Finale to be held this Sunday at Sha Tin Racecourse. The unveiling of the inaugural Tony Cruz Award winner and the Most Popular Jockey (after the final race) are among the afternoon’s many highlights, as is the ever-popular jockey parade.

Hong Kong’s talented female apprentice Kei Chiong is in pole position for the Tony Cruz Award and is vying for the Most Popular Jockey title with Hong Kong’s record smashing champion jockey Joao Moreira in what has turned out to be a close run thing. The Club’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges will present the Most Popular Jockey award, while Steward Philip Chen will be accompanied by Trainer Tony Cruz to present the inaugural Tony Cruz Award to the freelance jockey with the most winners in the season.

The season's Champion Trainer and Champion Jockey awards will be presented by the Club’s Chairman Dr. Simon S O Ip and the Deputy Chairman Mr. Anthony W K Chow respectively. The result of the Most Admired Overseas Horse, voted for by the public, will also be announced.

The day will close with the ever-popular Season Finale Parade on the turf track, with jockeys saying farewell and thanks to fans, and handing out souvenirs.

Throughout the day, the Season Finale Bazaar Sale will take place at Grandstand II 1/F, with over 100 items of racing merchandise on sale at up to 70% off the regular price.  The Club’s Horse Mascot will also make appearances for photo opportunities with racing fans.

There will be 11 races on the card, with the first race starting at 12:30 pm.  Admission starts at 10:30 am. For enquiries, please call the HKJC’s Customer Hotline 1817 or visit www.hkjc.com.  All racegoers must be aged 18 or above.
