United Kingdom added as commingling partner to HKJC pools beginning this week

15/11/2016

The Hong Kong Jockey Club and U.K. Tote announced an agreement which enables the commingling of bets from the United Kingdom to the world’s largest per-race pari-mutuel tote pools in Hong Kong, commencing from the Happy Valley race meeting this Wednesday, 16 November.

As part of the agreement, the betting shops and online platforms of long-established operators including Betfred, Coral and Ladbrokes will accept bets on the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s pari-mutuel tote pools. Fixed-odds wagering on Hong Kong racing will not be available. Satellite Information Systems (SIS) will distribute the live broadcasts to U.K. audiences.

“Given its tremendous legacy in the sport of horse racing, it is a great pleasure to welcome the U.K. to our expanding list of commingling jurisdictions,” said Mr. Richard Cheung, Executive Director, Customer and Marketing. “While we are certain that U.K. racing fans will be attracted to the world-class racing in Hong Kong, especially with our LONGINES Hong Kong International Races looming on Sunday, 11 December, our midweek racing, often at Happy Valley, is a perfect midday option for customers.”

“A High Street presence is a must in the U.K. market and this agreement will enable some of the world’s finest racing fans to participate in the excitement of Hong Kong’s competitive racing,” said Mr. George Irvine, the Club’s Commingling Development Director. “This deal ensures Hong Kong racing will be available in thousands of retail betting outlets while future agreements we are finalizing will enable later delivery direct to millions of U.K. households. Meanwhile, the placement of Hong Kong race cards in the Racing Post will reliably inform punters in a familiar style.”

“There are a great number of former British horses racing in Hong Kong,” added Mr. Cheung, “and with an average field size of over 12 horses per race combined with tremendous liquidity in our pools, there is no doubt our races will be very attractive to U.K. racing fans.”

The Club anticipates agreements with additional U.K. operators in the coming months.
