11/01/2017

Chinese New Year Raceday (photo 1) has always been one of Hong Kong's most popular horseracing events, bringing families and friends together in festive celebration. To celebrate the Year of the Rooster, the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Chief Executive Officer, Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, hosted a press conference today (11 January), together with Executive Director of Racing Business and Operations, Anthony Kelly, and Executive Director of Customer and Marketing, Richard Cheung, to announce the spectacular on-course activities at Sha Tin Racecourse on Monday, 30 January, the third day of the Chinese New Year.

HK$100 million mega prize to celebrate Chinese New Year
A total of HK$100 million (photo 2) will be on offer to celebrate the Year of the Rooster.  An estimated HK$18 million will await the holder of a single HK$10 winning unit for the Triple Trio at the race meeting on the third day of the Chinese New Year (30 January), as the prize pool will be topped up from the Triple Trio Jackpot Reserve. The Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool Jackpot will also be topped up with $2 million.

Meanwhile, the estimated First Division Prize Fund for the Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball Draw, which will be held on the fifth day of Chinese New Year (1 February), may reach HK$80 million. Tickets for the Snowball Draw will start selling on Wednesday 25 January.

CNY Raceday on-course attractions
All racegoers will receive a lucky ball pen (photo 3) and an instant win card# upon admission to the racecourse (while stocks last), offering a chance to win a pure gold Mini-Ingot Gift Pack (photo 4) from Luk Fook Jewellery.  There are 1,800 prizes to be won, with a total value of over HK$570,000.

The day will start with a grand opening variety show featuring performances by veteran Hong Kong singers Frances Yip (photo 5) and Bennett Pang (photo 6), as well as lucky tips from feng shui master Mak Ling Ling (photo 7). Festive dishes will be available at Mezza One, while a fortune display designed by Mak Ling Ling will be set up on the forecourt.

There will be a CNY-themed merchandise bazaar offering a selection of limited edition items carrying the stylish calligraphy of cross media artist Simon Ma, blending the Chinese character "horse" with a traditional lucky symbol. These delightful gifts will bring warm blessings throughout the year.

Free admission for tourists
The highlight on the race track (photo 8) will be the first two Group races for the Year of the Rooster, the G1 Stewards' Cup and the G2 Centenary Sprint Cup, together with the Class 1 Chinese New Year Cup.  There will be 11 races on the day, with the first starting at 12:30pm. Sha Tin Racecourse will open at 10:30am for admission.  Visitors to Hong Kong will be able to enter the Public Enclosure free of charge on showing a valid travel document.
