Join the popular CNY Raceday at Sha Tin Racecourse on Monday for a fabulous start to the Year of the Rooster

26/01/2017

The stars of fortune will be shining brightly on Sha Tin Racecourse on Monday January 30, pouring down well-being upon the Year of the Rooster.  The Hong Kong Jockey Club has again arranged an exciting array of festivities at the Chinese New Year Raceday (photo 1, 2) so that racegoers can start the Spring Festival with luck and blessings.

The excitement will start on arrival, as each person entering Sha Tin Racecourse that day will receive a lucky pen (photo 3) along with an Instant Win card # before the start of Race 6, while stocks last.  The Instant Win card offers the chance to win a pure gold Mini-Ingot Gift Pack (photo 4) from Luk Fook Jewellery. There are 1,800 prizes to be won, with a total value of over HK$570,000.

The day will begin with a live variety extravaganza at 11:00am in the Parade Ring.  Veteran Hong Kong singers Frances Yip and Bennett Pang will perform their all-time favourites and popular CNY tunes. Feng shui master Mak Ling Ling will share her lucky tips, while jockeys will wish fans good fortune and prosperity for the New Year.  Financial Secretary of the HKSAR, The Hon. Paul Chan Mo-po, will officiate at the opening ceremony and later present the Chinese New Year Cup (Race 8) trophies to the winning connections.

Visit the Feng Shui Avenue designed by Master Mak Ling Ling to bring blessings for a prosperous year. Inspired by the Year of the Rooster theme, the Avenue is decorated with a farmhouse, a golden chicken and eggs with symbolic meanings of wealth and a good life. Mak will also share her lucky tips to racegoers after Races 2, 3 and 5 at the Tipster Forum.

Racegoers can try to enrich their festive fortune by following Master Mak’s lucky tips.  She reveals that “1”, “5” and “9” are the lucky numbers for the day, and the most propitious periods will be 9am to 1pm. Visitors to the racecourse are encouraged to dress in brown, yellow or red to improve their winning potential.

A special menu of Chinese New Year dishes will be offered at Mezza One in the Public Enclosure, while collectible CNY-themed merchandise carrying the lucky symbol designed by cross media artist Simon Ma will be available at the Gift at Races souvenir shops.

The first two Group races of the Year of the Rooster, the Stewards’ Cup (Group 1) and the Centenary Sprint Cup (Group 2) will be run as Race 9 and Race 4 respectively.  An alluring HK$18 million Triple Trio dividend for a single HK$10 winning unit will give the day added lustre, while the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool Jackpot will also be topped up with HK$2 million.

Visitors to Hong Kong will be given free admission to the Racecourse by showing their valid travel documents on entering the Public Enclosure via tourist entrances.  Sha Tin Racecourse will open for admission on 30 January at 10:30 am, with the first race starting at 12:30 pm.  Free shuttle buses to the racecourse will be provided from Wong Tai Sin Temple.  For details, please refer to the table below:
