POWERMAX - 8 February 2017 - Race 4, SPORTS ROAD HANDICAP

06/02/2017

The Stewards have spoken to Trainer R Gibson and Jockey N Callan regarding Mr Gibson’s application to add Sheepskin Cheek Pieces to the gear carried by POWERMAX, a declared starter in the Sports Road Handicap (Race 4, Class 4, 1200 Metres) to be conducted at the Happy Valley race meeting on Wednesday, 8 February 2017. POWERMAX was successful in its most recent race start over the same course and distance on 11 January 2017 when racing with a Ring Bit only.

Mr Gibson and Jockey Callan explained that in its most recent race start, POWERMAX, raced greenly under pressure and was inclined to lay out. Mr Gibson said that as a result of the horse’s racing manners and on advice from Jockey Callan, he had applied Sheepskin Cheek Pieces to the horse in its subsequent trackwork, and both he and Jockey Callan are satisfied that the addition of this piece of equipment will assist the horse in racing more genuinely.

After considering the merits of Mr Gibson’s application, the Stewards have approved the gear change. The horse will therefore carry Sheepskin Cheek Pieces and a Ring Bit in the stated race.
